Recently, people were moved by a story taking the place in Thailand. It told about a girl whom had a quarrel with her mother and ran away from home. After several days, the girl walked into a restaurant in hungers.A man who was the cook invites her to sit down and then made some delicious food for him.The girl was very surprising. Then the cook told the girl that a woman took a photo and asked him whether he seen the girl. But the woman gave him some money to cook for the girl if she turned up.Until then the girl realized how greatly her mother was and she should be grateful on her.

【答案】

【解析】1.此句意為人們被發(fā)生在Thailand的一個故事所感動,take place意為發(fā)生 ,而take the place意為取代,故將the刪除。

5.由前文the girl walked into a restaurant in hunger可知這是個女孩,故將him改為her。

10.此處考查固定搭配,be grateful to 意為對感激的,故將on改為to 。

We girls wanted to go to the zoo, but since we are in minority, we lost to the boys, that all wanted the safari. We got the admission rate for the students, which was great since I still had not enough money to buy a brochure about the park as well as something at the souvenir shops. Once a man asked a painter to painting a picture for him. He told the artist he didn't want any shadows in the picture, just sunshine, but the artist did so. When the man saw the finishing picture, he was disappointing. Without shadows, everything in the picture looks flat and unreal. The point of the story is that we need both shadows and sunshine to have a completely picture, just as we need both rain and sun to have living world. People, too, needs both sadness and happiness. We often learn important lesson during sad times. So when we feel sad, we should try to stop and think about that we might learn from the experience.

【題目】If anything can be said about recordbreaking globetrotter (環(huán)球旅行家) Graham Hughes, it's that— throughout his travels— he's always kept his feet firmly on the ground.

The 33yearold adventurer, from Liverpool, has become the first person to visit all 201 countries in the world without using a plane.

Hughes used buses, taxis, trains and his own two feet to travel 160,000 miles in exactly 1,426 days — all on a shoestring(資金微薄) of just $100 a week.

He spent four days “crossing open ocean in a leaky (漏的) boat” to reach Cape Verde on the North Atlantic, was jailed for a week in the Congo for being mistaken as a “spy”, and was arrested trying to “sneak (溜;偷偷地做) into” Russia.

And yesterday Graham Hughes trudged (長途跋涉) into Juba, the capital of South Sudan, to end the epic fouryear journey that began in his hometown of Liverpool on New Year's Day 2009.

“I love travel, and I guess my reason for doing it was that I wanted to see if this could be done, by one person traveling on a shoestring,” he told the Christian Science Monitor. “I think I also wanted to show that the world is not some big, scary place, but in fact it is full of people who want to help you even if you are a stranger.”

Guinness has now confirmed that Hughes, who filmed the expedition for a documentary and raised money for charity Water Aid, has achieved the world record.

“The main feeling today is just one of intense gratitude to every person around the world who helped me get here, by giving me a lift, letting me stay on their couch, or pointing me in the right direction,” Hughes added.

1Which of the following is NOT described Graham Hughes?

A. Globetrotter.

B. Adventurer.

C. The first person traveling around the world not using a plane.

D. Scientist.

2Which of the following is NOT true according to the text?

A. When he traveled on the ocean, his boat was leaking water.

B. He was put into prison because of being considered a spy in the Congo.

C. He was caught in Russia because he stole something.

D. It was in South Sudan that he ended his epic fouryear journey.

3Why did Hughes make the world record that he had achieved into the film — the expedition for a documentary?

A. Because he wanted to be remembered by people all over the world.

B. Because he wanted to raise money for charity Water Aid.

C. Because he only wanted to record his experience.

D. Because he wanted to earn money.

4What can we learn from the last paragraph?

A. When he traveled all over the world, he got a lot of help from different people.

B. He often sleeps on the coach.

C. He often points the direction for others.

D. He is grateful to the people who have helped him.
