Nowadays, many schools use the way of closed management to manage students, leaving students less freedom to leave the school at will. Students have different opinions about it.
Some students think school is the best place to get knowledge so they should study with a peaceful heart.  Some  students  lack  the  ability  to  control themselves. Once out of school, they may get themselves into trouble.
Some others think they enjoy less freedom and have less time to be with their families and friends. Besides, they get few chances to get in touch with society, which makes them a frog in a well. Therefore, they have less interest in their studies.
Personally I think, it is necessary to keep students at school. But at the same time schools should organize various activities so that students can enjoy their school life.
