I am sitting in an empty football field after my last high school football game was finished a few hours ago.I'm the mid-field player on my team. But in fact that's not true now.I was the mid-field player because,as I said, this was my   1   game. That's a good way to end a high school football career(生涯),especially if you win,but even though you don't,it's good to leave at a high point.

I was eight when I first started playing football. My dad   2    football and he used to practice with me at home-passing,catching,running.We used to practice almost every evening  __3   it got too dark.He tried to teach me everything he knew about the   4   .“Just remember:don’t ever    5   .” “Stay in the game.Don’t lose your concentration(專注).”  “Go out there and give one percent(百分之一)every time.” Well, that was a long time ago,but I still hear his words ringing in my ears.

I had a lot on my mind 6  the game today.I don't like things to end,I guess, and this was the last game.I was talking to myself and warning myself about what to do and not to do,I didn't sleep at all   7    and when the sun came up this morning,I reached the point where I just wanted it all to be over, finished, done. But then when the game started,my mind became   8  .I just lived in this game, this moment.I didn't hear the crowd.I didn't feel the cold or the pain.I never felt tired.I just kept my eyes on the hall, and it was just me and the ball and, inside,a soft, white light    9    me the way to the goal.It was a beautiful, empty feeling.

It's all over now and it's really getting cold here. It's starting to snow. The sun's almost gone, and I can   10    see the goal. Now it's dark and I'm sitting here all alone.Well, I guess it's time to say good-bye and move on.

Martin had just finished high school. He would go to college at the far end of the city. He didn’t want to live there, and he didn’t want to take the bus either. So his father agreed to buy him a car.
His father spent all his summer teaching him how to drive, from the ABC to the XYZ. Thinking of the great feeling of driving a new car, Martin learned very quickly, and received his driver’s license just before his eighteenth birthday.
The second day, all the family, and their dog, went to a car shop. Martin spent almost all the morning going from one car to another. Finally he saw a red Blue Bird. He had a test drive on the open ground, and called out, “This is what I want, Dad!” When everything was done, they were ready to leave.
Martin climbed into the front seat. He said excitedly, “It’s my first day driving alone. Dad, Mom, and Poo! Enjoy it!”
His dad immediately took the back seat, right behind the new driver. Martin wondered why his father chose that seat, for his father always enjoyed looking in front.
So he said, smiling, “I’m sure you’re back there to have a change after all those weeks of sitting in the front seat teaching me how to drive.”
“No,” Dad replied, “Do you remember what you did to me all those years when I took you to and from school? I am sitting here to hit and kick the back of your seat all the way!”
