If you knew a bottle of water had been recycled from urine (尿), would you drink it? Astronauts at the International Space Station ( ISS )may soon do so.

NASA (美國航空航天局)said it would use a high -tech machine (高科技機器) to recycle wastewater at the ISS.The machine will recycle everything from sweat (汗), the water for washing hands, shower water, water used for brushing teeth, and even urine, to make drinking water. It will save NASA millions of dollars each year.At present, each ISS astronaut uses about 4.4 liters (升)of water every day.It costs about $24 million a year to transport water up to ISS.NASA says that a liter of water costs about $11,000.

The machine will be sent to the ISS in October 2008.NASA hopes it will recycle about 93% of all water used on the station.

Will the water be clean? Scientists say the wastewater will go through a very complicated process (復雜的過程).For example, different chemicals will be put in the wastewater; the water will be heated to 130℃ to get rid of bacteria (細菌).The recycled water is thousands of times better than the water from a city tap, scientists say.

4.The reading mainly tells us something about _______.

A.water recycling                           B.the International Space Station

C.a(chǎn) high - tech machine                 D.the cost of NASA

5.Which of the following sentences is true, according to the passage?

A.The recycled water is much better than that from a city tap.

B.The high - tech machine will recycle all the water used on the station.

C.At present, each ISS astronaut uses more water than the people living on the earth.

In many high schools, there are strict rules about using mobile phones. If your phone rings in class, for example, the teacher will be very angry.

Every mobile phone has a ringtone (鈴聲).It tells you that someone is calling you. Now, there is a ringtone called “mosquitotone (蚊子鈴聲)”.Using it, students can receive calls and text messages (短信) in class but the teacher will not realize what is happening. How?

Mosquitotone has a special sound.Only children and teenagers can hear it.As we get older, we are unable to hear some sounds with high frequencies (頻率).As a result, a child or teenager can hear the mosquitotone ringtone, but it’s inaudible to someone 20 or older.

But sometimes, people over 20 can hear the ringtone. One British student’s phone uses mosquitotone. In class, the student’s phone rang. The 32-year-old teacher looked at the student and became unhappy.“I heard that. You know the rule:no mobile phone in class.”

Not all the students are interested in mosquitotone.Jerry Jones, a high school student of 17, says, “Using mosquitotone too often is bad for our hearing.I may use it for pleasure, but not in class. It’s unfair to the teachers!”

What do parents think of mosquitotone?“I think it is perfect for places like movie theaters, ” says Connie Neeson,44.“Think about it.Yon’re watching a film and someone’s mobile phone rings.Mosquitotone is good because many people don’t hear it.However, it also has a bad influence on their study if students use it in class.”

Who is reading your blogs or checking out your information online? Two reports show that surfing the Internet and sending personal information to people you do not know could be a problem.
Most sites give users their own webspace where they can write their diaries or post their pictures. The sites encourage users to get their friends to look at their work and to comment(評論)on what are posted on the sites.
Teachers are worried that some children are posting their personal information on websites. This could put them at risk from those who plan to do harm to young people. Teachers are also worried some users think it is OK to use the websites in a way that could get others into trouble.
In a school in Illinois(伊利諾斯州)in the US where some popular sites are used wildly, the school would punish(懲罰)students who posted pictures or information about smoking , drinking and other illegal(違法的)activities on the websites.
The school is now going to encourage its 3,200 students to obey a new rule. The warning is clear. That is, be careful when posting information about yourself such as your age, sex, address and interests on a website that anyone can see.
Another warning about the Internet comes from a report. It shows searchers are leading users to websites that show them spam(垃圾短信)and other dangerous downloads. The words “ free screen savers” were found to be the most dangerous words that people search for.
It is well-known that visiting sites offering free MP3s leave users at serious risk. Spyware(監(jiān)控軟件)should be installed on their computers. So, happy surfing ,but remember not to get caught in the Net!

How much paper do you use every year? Maybe you can't answer this question quickly. In 1990, the world's use of paper was about one kilogram for each person in a year. Now some countries use as 50 kilograms of paper for each person in a year. But countries like America, England and Sweden, certainly use more paper than other countries.

Paper was first made in China about 2000 years ago. It was made from the hairlike parts of certain plants. Paper was not made in southern Europe until about the year 1100. In 1500, a German named Schaeffer found out that one could make the best paper from trees. After that, the forest countries of Canada, Sweden, America and Finland became the most important ones in paper making.

When we think of paper, we think of newspapers, books and writing-paper. But there are many other uses. Only half of the paper is used for books and magazines. Paper is very good for keeping you warm. You may see some people asleep on a large number of newspapers. They're insulating themselves from the cold. In Finland the temperature is sometimes --40 centigrade(攝氏). The farmers wear paper boots in the snow. Nothing could be warmer.

Each year more and more things are made of paper. We have had paper cups and plates for a long time. Now we hear that chairs, tables and even beds can be made of paper. With paper boots and shoes, you can wear paper hats, paper dresses and paper raincoats. When you have used them once, you throw them away and buy new ones.

People have made paper boats, but they haven't made planes or cars. Just wait--they perhaps will some day.
