Born into a farming family in Heilongjiang in 1966, Zhai Zhigang, the youngest of the children, joined the air force in 1985. He was selected as one of the candidates for astronauts in 1998. He failed to become an astronaut in 2003 and 2005. But he never gave up; instead, he worded even harder than before and steeled himself against failure. In 2880, because of his excellent professional and psychological performance he eventually qualified as the first Chinese space walker. China has become the third country to successfully stage space walk in the world. I think he is a hero and I am proud of what our country has achieved.

Dear Mary,

    I am glad to hear that you will come to China to further your education. As you know, China is playing an increasingly important role in the world and now she is becoming a popular destination for overseas students as a result of her rapid economic growth and the low cost of living. More importantly, she hosted the 2008 Olympics successfully, which made her an attraction for foreigners.

    Many international students choose Chinese as their major, while others choose to study traditional Chinese medicine, economics, management and other majors. Besides, foreign students are recruited in 544 universities respectively in China.

     I think it is a wise choice to study in China. If you need more information do let me know. I am glad to help you. And you are welcome to China.

                                                                               Yours,

                                                                                  Fangfang

    China’s Ministry of Education issued a revised scheme for the prevention of short--sightedness among students in September 2008. The aim is to reduce the rate of students’ becoming nearsighted. It has detailed requirements for students’ sleeping hours, homework amount, physical exercise as well as classroom arrangements and lighting condition of the classroom.

In my opinion, first, the exam-oriented education system should be reformed so that students won’t be overburdened with homework and won’t stay up late. Second, we should ensure at least 10 hours’ sleep for primary students and eight for middle school students. Finally, at least one-hour physical exercise should be guaranteed. Anyway, only when all the measures are effectively imposed can we guarantee students enjoy a healthy and happy school life.

As we know, when senior students graduate from school, most of their reference books are thrown away, which are still in good condition. What a great waste it is!

  I think it’s wise for the government to recycle these books. On one hand, recycling them can save much natural resources, which are used to make textbooks. On the other hand, senior students may have made many useful notes on the pages. They are very helpful to the following users.
     Now the whole nation is called on to build an energy-saving society. I think it is certainly meaningful to our long-term interests. In fact, in Australia and some other countries, recycling textbooks is popular, which gives us a good example.

It can be seen obviously from the above examination result list that Li Qiang is excellent at maths, science, and basic ability, while his Chinese and English are comparatively weak.

Li Qiang’s maths, science and basic ability are already good enough, so his aim should be keeping them at present level, making sure they would not drop. Spending too much time on these three subjects is not worthwhile.

As for English and Chinese, Li Qinang must try his best to find out why the marks always stay so low, and then he had better go to the teachers and classmates for advice, so that he could take effective measures to improve his Chinese and English.

Li Qiang still has several months left to prepare for the university entrance examination. I hope he can keep the balance of all the subjects to enter an ideal university.

請(qǐng)你以“Is sport really good for us?”

2.       反方:運(yùn)動(dòng)并非是強(qiáng)身健體的唯一形式(如飲食也很重要);運(yùn)動(dòng)容易造成傷害,挫折等;

Is sport really good for us?

Some think sport does us good in many ways. Not only does sport help people to stay fit and healthy, but the competition and teamwork in sport give people a lot of motivation to keep going and to push themselves hard. Others believe that sport is not the only way to do this. Eating well is a big part of a healthy life. On the other hand, sport can actually be dangerous. Millions of people are hurt playing sport each year, some of them very seriously. Many children are not naturally talented and only come across failure and embarrassment on the sports field. This hurts their confidence.

 I think sport teaches us big lessons for life. Most sports involve teamwork and teach us how to get along with others, how to work together to achieve a common goal, and about trust and responsibility. All sports teach us about dealing with success and failure. They also help people learn about coping with pressure and the need to stick with training in order to improve yourself. True, some sports do not suit some people, but there are so many possible choices that everyone can find a sport to enjoy.

請(qǐng)你根據(jù)表格中的內(nèi)容用英語(yǔ)寫一篇題為“Top Meal of the Day”的的短文投寄給21vst Century。

原因

1.       晚上學(xué)習(xí)太晚,不吃早餐可多睡一會(huì)兒;

1.       課上整天想睡覺;

1.       早餐不可少,它提供全天所需能量的30%,且有助于創(chuàng)造思維;

Top Meal of the Day

A recent study shows that nearly 50 percent of the school kids do not have breakfast.

Some students who study late into the night choose to miss breakfast so that they can have a few extra minutes in bed. A few school girls want to stay slim and often go to school without breakfast. As a result, they tend to feel sleepy all day and have bad memories, so it is hard for them to get high marks in all kinds of tests.

 In fact, the morning meal plays an important part. It can provide 30 percent of the whole day’s energy. For a creative mind and better judgment, school kids should start their days with a regular breakfast.

How to Relax Before Exams

Many of us feel somehow nervous whenever we are taking an important exam. Nervousness not only does harm to students; health but also disturbs our study. So it’s necessary for us students to learn to relax. I think it’s very important to have a right attitude towards exams. Exams are only a means of checking what we have learned. Therefore, there is no need to worry too much about the results of exams. Before an exam making a scientific study plan and keeping a peaceful mind can help to reduce the pressure from the exams. We can also relax ourselves by doing sports and listening to music. Besides, enough sleep and a balance diet will work as well.

 Follow my advice and you will enjoy your school life.

Recently, the students of Senior 3 in our school have had a discussion about whether we should have classes on weekends.

Some of the students hold the view that they should have classes on weekends because the College Entrance Examination will be held in June, and the students should make full use of their free time to review what they have learnt. Besides, they need more practice and the teachers; guidance to make sure of those important points, which make them confused. Lack of self-control is also another reason for attending classes on weekends.

However, some of them are against the idea. They believe students should have a good rest on weekends so that they can study more effectively during the weekdays. Meanwhile, they need a little more time to think and arrange their study for themselves.

Personally, study and rest are both important for students. Whether we choose to attend classes on weekends or not, we should balance our study and relaxation.

As we can see from the cartoon, the fourth factor---avoiding miswritten and misused Chinese characters was also reminded of while the student was told about the three key ones in the composition by one teacher.

The story can go back to the new grading rule of composition introduced in 2008---one point will be deducted for one wrongly written and wrongly used character, which has generated a lot of discussion.

I am strongly for the rule. For one thing, we are Chinese and we should use our mother tongue correctly. For another, this rule can help us to develop a good habit of looking it up in the dictionary whenever we come across a new character. Only in this way can we have a god knowledge of Chinese characters.

The above graph is the result of a survey which shows the different opinions of the senir three graduating students of the school on how to choose their majors and universitities.

 About 35% of the students insist that the choice should be based on their own interest. They say interest is the way leading to success. They think it a miserable thing to be obliged to study what they have no interest in.

 About 45% of the students, however, consider it is the need of the society that matters a lot, for, they say, it will help them find the job they like best. In addition, interest can be developed and changed.

 Interestingly, there are about 20% of the students who find it so difficult to make a choice that they prefer to follow the advice offered by their parents or teachers.
      In my opinion, interest is the most important of all. Without interest you can’t study the subject very well and may have more difficulties with your career.

Hello, everyone,

Now I’ll tell you something about our research project The World Food Crisis on behalf of our group. As you know, food shortages have hit many countries in the world and even caused social unrest in some areas. But who is responsible for the current world food crisis? First, annual world grains output has declined because of climate change. Then lots of farmland has been lost due to the rapid development of industry and urbanization. Besides, faced with the rising energy prices, people have turned to the production of biofuels, which has worsened the severe situation.

Then what should we do to deal with the problem? On one hand, we should focus on the environmental protection and improve the ecology. On the other hand, strict measures should be taken to protect farmland. Of course, to build a harmonious world the developed countries should take their responsibilities to help the poor ones experiencing food shortage.

 As for me, I will call on the people around me to live thriftily. And for the moment, I think, we should study hard to develop science and help solve the food shortage in the future.

Sallie is one of my best friends. I enjoy her friendship very much. However, she has a bad habit, which bothers me a lot. She always throws trash everywhere.

 One Saturday afternoon, we went shopping together. About an hour later, we felt a little hungry, so we bought some fried chicken to eat as we walked around. Just as we finished eating, Sallie dropped her empty food trash on the ground and went into a clothes shop. When I noticed this, I didn’t follow her into the shop immediately. Instead, I picked her trash up and put it into a trash can nearby. I told her it was not righty to throw rubbish in public.

 When she heard my words, she felt sorry. She promised that she would give up the bad habit and no longer throw trash around.

Deal Kai xin,

I’m a middle school student. I’m doing well in my studies, and ready to help others. In the school I like to talk with my classmates. However, I have a problem that troubles me all the time. It is the relationship between my deskmate and me.

 My deskmate is a hardworking student, who keeps the school rules well. However, he is a person of few words. What’ more, he loses his temper easily. I don’t know how to communicate with him. Maybe it’s because we have seldom sat down and exchanged our feelings and thoughts. I hope we can know more about each other and understand each other better. I do hope we’ll be closer. What can I do?

                                                                      Yours sincerely,

                                                                        Fan  Hua
