China plans to make new rules to give more controls over the growing number of blogs and webcasts.
Nowadays, advanced network technologies, such as blogging and webcasting, are being improved to challenge the government’s ability to watch over the Internet.
Chinese government is in the middle of making new rules over Internet publishing, and blogs and websites publishing webcasts will fall under these rules. Government officials hope the new rules will ensure(保證) a more healthy and active Internet environment and will fully respect and protect Chinese citizens’ freedom of speech. Specific details on what kind of rules will be carried out are still unknown to the public. Despite the growing popularity, bloggers and webcasters have been unpopular with publication institutions.
In 2006, a series of cases involving bloggers who had dived into other people’s privacy and written materials ruining other’s fame urged the government to consider whether to require bloggers to use their real names when they login in.
Webcasting without copyright and illegally “copying” products from copyrighted materials have also led government officials to consider starting a nationwide check of online video broadcasting, and allow only qualified websites to continue offering webcasts.

Imagine, one day, getting out of bed in Beijing and being at your office in Shanghai in only a couple of hours, and then, after a full day of work, going back home to Beijing and having dinner there.
Sounds unusual, doesn't it? But it's not that unrealistic, with the development of China’s high-speed railway system. And that’s not all.China has an even greater high-speed railway plan — to connect the country with Southeast Asia, and eventually Eastern Europe.
China is negotiating to extend its own high-speed railway network to up to 17 countries in 10 to 15 years, eventually reaching London and Singapore.
China has proposed three such projects. The first would possibly connect Kunming with Singapore via Vietnam and Malaysia.Another could start in Urumqi and go through Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, and possibly to Germany. The third would start in the northeast and go north through Russia and then into Western Europe.
If China’s plan for the high-speed railway goes forward, people could zip over from London to Beijing in under two days.
The new system would still follow China’s high-speed railway standard. And the trains would be able to go 346 kilometers an hour, almost as fast as some airplanes.
China’s bullet train(高速客車),the one connecting Wuhan to Guangzhou, already has the World’s fastest average speed. It covers 1,069 kilometers in about three hours.
Of course, there are some technical challenges to overcome. There are so many issues that need to be settled, such as safety, rail gauge(軌距),maintenance of railway tracks. So,it’s important to pay attention to every detail.
But the key issue is really money.China is already spending hundreds of billions of yuan on domestic railway expansion.
China prefers that the other countries pay in natural resources rather than with capital investment.Resources from those countries could stream into China to sustain development.
It’ll be a win-win project. For other countries, the railway network will definitely create more opportunities for business, tourism and so on,not to mention the better communication among those countries.
For China, such a project would not only connect it with the rest of Asia and bring some much-needed resources, but would also help develop China’s far west.We foresee that in the coming decades, millions of people will migrate to the western regions, where the land is empty and resources unused. With high-speed trains, people will set up factories and business centers in the west once and for all.And they’ll trade with Central Asian and Eastern European countries.
China’s new high-speed railway plan will be a win-win project because ________.
A.China will get much-needed resources and develop its western regions
B.China and the countries involved will benefit from the project in various ways
C.China will develop its railway system and communication with other countries
D.the foreign countries involved will develop their railway transportation, business and tourism
According to the passage, the greatest challenge to the new high-speed railway plan is ________.
A.technical issues B.safety of the system
C.financial problems D.maintenance of railway tracks
Which of the following words best describes the author’s attitude towards China’s high-speed railway plan?
A.Critical. B.Reserved. C.Doubtful. D.Positive.
Which of the following might be the best title for the passage?
A.New Railway Standards. B.Big Railway Dreams.
C.High-speed Bullet Trains. D.International Railway Network

If we say the four great inventions (Gunpowder,Compass,Paper and Art of Printing) reflected ancient China’s scientific achievements, then Zhaozhou Stone Bridge perfectly represented one of the greatest contributions to ancient China’s bridge building.Nobody was unfamiliar with the stone bridge full of legends and vivid folk stories.
The ancient Zhaozhou stone bridge started to be built in 590 during the Sui Dynasty (581~618) and established in 608.The pioneer for building the bridge was Li Chun who overcame unimaginable difficulties, undergoing all hardships. The location of the bridge is in Zhao County south,Hebei Province. It lay across the Xiaoshui River, far away from the mountains that provided rocky materials. In ancient times,it was such a busy, deep and wide river that could be used as an important carriage to transport heavy rocks and other materials. As we know,no train,no lifting machine could be used to move granite(花崗巖)blocks to the construction site.As an intelligent stonemason and engineer,Li Chun worked out his plan and design all from his own direct observation and investigation. It took his whole life-time in completing the great historical project inChina.Nowadays it is not only a historical remarkable model of architecture, but also a brilliant Chinese cultural crystallization(結(jié)晶) of wisdom.
The entire length of the bridge is 50.82 meters with 10 meters width. The whole stone bridge looks like a big bow,the span of which is 37.02 meters, and its height from the top to the surface of water at a regular position is 7.23 meters. The bridge arch seems to be moving smoothly and flatly. The whole arch consists of 28 big granite blocks connected each other tightly together. On both end sides of the general arch there are 4 smaller arches,2 of which on one side, the other 2 on the other side. The smaller arches could be used to decrease the weight of the bridge and save stone materials, and help flood get through easily, which seems to be much prettier.Such a hard-thinking and careful consideration of the engineering article is really a model of design and layout. The span was much wider than the other stone bridge in ancient times all over China.
Today Zhaozhou Stone Bridge is one of international cultural relics and perfectly protected and preserved by the concerned administration of China.

A.Great engineer in ancient China B.Zhaozhou stone bridge

Ms Tan,you've referred to your new novel as your eighth book.
That's because it took me six or seven attempts at a second novel before I started and completed this one.
●Why do you think you had so many false starts?
I would say that my reasons were wrong:I was trying to prove that I wasn't just a mother-daughter storyteller,or I was trying to prove that I didn't just have to write about things that were strictly Chinese or Chinese-American.Those were never the right reasons for writing those early stories. And I could never come up with other, better reasons for continuing them.
●What kept you going on this book?
This book was different because it was based on my mother's real life. The reason for writing it became more personal and emotional. After The Joy Luck Club came out,my mother was always explaining to people that she wasn't any of the mothers in that book. And at one point she said to me,“Next book tells my true story.”And then she started telling me things I never knew before. She also told me many, many stories, because my mother doesn't generalize. The book really grew out of that.
●Have you ever visited China?
Yes.I've been there twice:about three years ago and then again last November, both times with my mother and my husband.
●Was it difficult to capture the Chinese-American dialect without sounding like a parody(拙劣的模仿)?
No,because it's the language I've heard all my life from my mother. She speaks English as it's direct translation from Chinese. But it's more than that:Her language also has more imagery than English.
●Can you think of an example?
Somebody might say to me,“Don't work so hard. You'll kill yourself.”My mother will say to me,“Why do you press all your brains out on this page for someone else?”So it's very vivid. That's the way she talks.
●Have many readers told you that the Chinese mother in your book reminded them of the typical Jewish(有癖好的)mother?
Many people have told me that.I think the mother-daughter relationship is very intense in both cases.Culturally there is an acceptance that mothers have the power to tell their children, especially their daughters, how to conduct their lives—not simply up until the time they are 18,but for the rest of their lives. However, when children grow up in a different culture from their parents',they tend to keep more secrets from their parents. The children think,“They just wouldn't understand that I had to do this.”And that can really create a gap,and it can grow as the number of secrets grows.

A.It's about her real life in America.
B.The name of the book is The Joy Luck Club.

3.Which question is NOT answered in the interview?
A.How does she think of her mother's language?
B.How many books does she plan to write?
C.When did she visit China?
D.How is generation gap created?
