A mystery shopper is not a professional spy. Mystery shoppers are the secret eyes of service companies that need reliable judgment of their market competitiveness. However, earning an income as a mystery shopper is a legal job to assess the qualities of the service of a company, and help it grow and succeed. In other words, mystery shopping is about making truthful value judgment of the friendliness of the shopping environment, the helpfulness of the frontline stuff, the abilities of the shopping assistants, etc. You should be able not only to observe all these and make logical conclusions about your overall customer satisfaction, but also to remember details and watch out for particular signs. In the end, you will be asked to write down your impressions, either on paper or on line.
To be a successful mystery shopper, you need to meet some requirements. First you should feed the company that hires you with correct and reliable information about your shopping experience. Besides, you also need basic writing skills. You should write in a simple and understandable way, but still show both your overall impressions and the details you are asked about.
Don’t worry if you are a new mystery shopper—the company that hires you should provide you with instructions how to complete your shopping tasks. If the company does not provide you with prior(預(yù)先) training, you should doubt that it might be a mystery shopping test which you should be careful with. Therefore, you should always get instructions about the mystery shopping rules that you have to follow; about the things you should watch out for; about the way to fill in and present your response, etc. Becoming an experienced mystery shopper pays well. As you’re likely to get more invitations, earn greater income, and be contracted by more mystery shopping companies.

Most of us are used to seasons. Each year, spring follows winter, which follows autumn, which follows summer, which follows spring. And winter is colder than summer. But the earth goes through temperature cycles over much longer periods than those that we experience. Between 65,000 and 35,000 years, the planet was much colder than it is now .During that time the temperature also changed a lot, with periods of warming and cooling. Ice melted during the warm periods, which made sea levels rise. Water froze again during the cold periods.
A new study from Switzerland throws light on where ice sheets(冰川)inched during the ice age. It now seems that the ice melted at both ends of the earth, rather than just in either northern or southern regions.
This surprised the researchers from the University of Bern. Scientists have long assumed(假設(shè))that most of the ice that melted was in the Northern hemisphere(半球)during the 30,000-year long ice age. That belief was held because the North Pole is surrounded by land, while the South Pole is surrounded by the Antarctic Ocean. It is easier for ice sheets to grow on land .If surrendered by sea the ice can easily just slip into the ocean instead of building up.
The researchers used a computer model to look at ways the ice could melt and how it might affect sea levels. They compared these results to evidence of how temperatures and currents actually changed during that time. The model showed that if it was only in the Northern hemisphere that ice melted, there would have been a bigger impact(影響)on ocean currents (洋流)and sea temperatures than what actually happened. Studies suggest that melting just in the Southern hemisphere would have been impossible, too. The only reasonable conclusion, the scientists could make, was that ice melted equally in the North and the South.
It is still a mystery as to what caused the temperature changes that caused the ice to melt.
The North Pole is surrounded by land ,while the South Pole is surrounded by the Antarctic Ocean. So scientists thought that .
A.most of the ice melted in the Northern hemisphere
B.most of the ice melted in the Southern hemisphere
C.The North Pole is colder than South Pole
D.The South Pole is colder than North Pole
We can learn from the passage .
A.the ice can easily just slip into the ocean
B.volcanoes caused the ice to melt
C.melting just in the Northern hemisphere would have been impossible
D.researchers often use the computer models to help their research work
The scientists are not sure .
A.how long the ice age lasted
B.where ice sheets melted during the ice age .
C.what caused the temperature changes
D.what the earth is made up of
Which of the following is NOT right ?
A.The researchers want to know how the melting of ice might affect sea levels by the
computer model.
B.Studies show ice melted equally in the North and the South during the ice age.
C.Most of the ice melted in the Northern hemisphere(半球)during the 30,000-year long
Ice age.
D.The temperature changes caused the ice to melt.

How men first learned to invent words is unknown, in other words, the origin of language is a mystery. All we really know is that men, unlike animals, somehow invented certain sounds to express thoughts and feelings, actions and things, so that they could communicate with each other; and that later they agreed upon certain signs, called letters, which could be combined to represent those sounds and which could be written down. Those sounds, whether spoken, or written in letters, we call words.
The power of words, then, lies in their association-the thing they bring up before our minds. Words become filled with meaning for us by experience; and the longer we live, the more certain words recall to us the glad and the sad events of our past; and the more we read and learn, the more the number of words that mean something to us increase.
Great writers are those who not only have great thoughts but also express these thoughts in words which appeal powerfully to our minds and emotions. This charming and telling use of words is what we call literary style. Above all, the real poet is a master of words. He can convey (表達(dá),傳遞)his meaning in words which sing like music, and which by their position and association can move men to tears. We should, therefore, learn to choose our words carefully and use them accurately, or they make our speech silly and vulgar.(粗俗的)
Which of the following about a real poet is NOT true?
A.He is less than a master of words.
B.His style is always charming.
C.His poem can move men to tears.
D.He can express his ideas in words that sing like music.
Where does the real power of the words come from?
A.From the words themselves.
B.From their characteristics.
C.From their curiosity.
D.From their association.
What is the main idea of the passage?
A.The importance of choosing words.
B.Where the real power of words come from.
C.What great writers are like.
D.We should learn to choose words carefully.
