Sometimes your friends start to talk about a new video game or a new app they have downloaded. It sounds pretty cool, and your friends really seem to like it. You become so (interest) in it that you want to buy it too. Has this ever happened to you?
In the US and in places around the world, there is a similar feeling of wanting the (new), greatest tech gadgets (小玩意). There is a big (attract) to getting the latest technology even though people may not need it. But why is this?
As to(關(guān)于) these technologies, there's initial (最初的) excitement that (get) people's attention, according to Richard Larson, a director at MIT, US. If there's a big group of people want these things, you want to be a part of the excitement too.
One of the major US (company) that really take advantage of this is Apple. It comes out with a new iPhone with very small changes every year. But people still flock (涌入) to the stores even if they have just bought the previous phone.
However, (buy)these things may not always be the best choice. You could be buying things that you don't really need and (spend) too much money just for the right to show it off to your friends.
Not only that, but our need to always be on your phones or playing video games takes a lot of time in our lives. So is this excitement over technology a good or a bad thing?

【題目】How to protect children Web fans from unsuitable material on-line while encouraging them to use the Internet has long been discussed in the U. S.

For some parents, the Internet can seem like a jungle, filled with danger for their children. 1 With good guides, some education, and a few precautions(預(yù)防措施), the wilds of the Internet can be safely navigated(航行). “Kids have to be on-line. If we tell our kids they can’t have access (機(jī)會) to the Internet, we’re cutting them off from their future,” said an expert.

Most kids have started to use search engines. 2 There are search engines designed just for kids. A certain software contains only sites that have been selected as safe. 3 But this can’t be wholly reliable(可靠), and the best thing parents can do is to talk to their kids and let them know what is OK or not OK to see or do on the Internet.

4

A few other tips

● Don’t put the PC in a child’s room but keep it in an area where mum or dad can keep an eye on things. That also makes the Internet more of a family activity.

● Ask your child what he or she has been doing and about any friends they make on-line.

5

● And tell your children never to talk to anyone they meet on-line over the phone, send them anything, accept anything from them or agree to meet with them unless you go along.

A. The most popular way to limit access would be to use what is known as a “content screener(過濾器)”.

B. Many of them are great for finding tons of interesting Internet sites, and they can also locate places where you might not want your kids to go.

C. Tell your child not to give on-line strangers personal information, especially like address and phone number.

D. But jungles contain wonders as well as dangers.

E. Tell your child not to talk to any strangers.

F. Another way is that mum or dad is nearby when the child is surfing(瀏覽) the Internet.

G. And also parents can help the child in trouble.

【題目】根據(jù)短文理解,選擇正確答案。
“Have a nice day!” may be a pleasant gesture or a meaningless expression. When my friend Maxie says “Have a nice day” with a smile, I know she sincerely cares about what happens to me. I feel loved and safe since another person cares about me and wishes me well.
“Have a nice day. Next!” This version of the expression is spoken by a salesgirl at the supermarket who is rushing me and my groceries out the door. The words come out in the same tone (腔調(diào)) with a fixed procedure. They are spoken at me, not to me. Obviously, the concern for my day and everyone else's is the management's attempt to increase business.
The expression is one of those behaviors that help people get along with each other. Sometimes it indicates the end of a meeting. As soon as you hear it, you know the meeting is at an end. Sometimes the expression saves us when we don't know what to say. “Oh, you just had a tooth out? I'm terribly sorry, but have a nice day. ”
The expression can be pleasant. If a stranger says “Have a nice day” to you, you may find it heartwarming because someone you don't know has tried to be nice to you.
Although the use of the expression is an insincere, meaningless social custom at times, there is nothing wrong with the sentence except that it is a little uninteresting. The salesgirl, the waitress, the teacher, and all the countless others who speak it without thinking may not really care about my day. But in a strange and comfortable way, it's nice to know they care enough to pretend they care when they really don't care all that much. While the expression may not often be sincere, it is always spoken. The point is that people say it all the time when they like.
(1)How does the author understand Maxie's words?
A.Maxie shows her anxiety to the author.
B.Maxie really wishes the author a good day.
C.Maxie encourages the author to stay happy.
D.Maxie really worries about the author's safety.
(2)What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 2 mean?
A.The salesgirl is rude to the customers.
B.The salesgirl is bored with her work.
C.The salesgirl cares about me.
D.The salesgirl says the words as usual.
(3)According to the last paragraph, people say “ Have a nice day” ______________.
A.as a habit
B.as thanks
C.sincerely
D.encouragingly

It does not have to be January 1st to give yourself a chance to make the most out of your day. Every day is a new day and a fresh start to learn, grow, develop your strengths, free yourself from past regrets or hurts, and move forward older and wiser. Every day gives you chance to reinvent yourself. It is never too late to change things that are not working in your life.
Each day is a new beginning and a piece of blank paper. How would you like to create your day? If you wake up in a negative mind, you are more likely to paint a dark picture throughout the day, and your picture will not show hope, happiness and joy.
If you take each day to think actively, and have a positive intention for how you would like to create your day, how would your life different? What can daily positive intentions do for you? Every day you will give yourself the gift of an “attitude of gratitude”.
Each day is a chance to look at things in a different way. You can experience each day in the beauty of the world—and the beauty of you who is in it! You find yourself changing from “I can't” to “I can”. With a focus on positive intentions, you feel you are full of power and more like a “winner” than a “l(fā)oser”.
You pay more attention to the present, and will be more likely to live fully in the present each moment of each day. After all, the past is a great place to visit, but you don't want to live there! So how about starting each day taking a moment to think of a positive intention for the day?

Whether in the home or the workplace, social robots are going to become a lot more common in the next few years. Social robots are about to bring technology to the everyday world in a more humanized way, said Cynthia Breazeal, chief scientist at the robot company Jibo.
While household robots today do the normal housework, social robots will be much more like companions(同伴) than mere tools. For example, these robots will be able to distinguish when someone is happy or sad. This allows them to respond more appropriately to the user.
The Jibo robot, arranged to ship later this year, is designed to be a personalized assistant. You can talk to the robot, ask it questions, and make requests for it to perform different tasks. The robot doesn't just deliver general answers to questions; it responds based on what it learns about each individual in the household. It can do things such as reminding an elderly family member to take medicine or taking family photos.
Social robots are not just finding their way into the home. They have potential applications in everything from education to health care and are already finding their way into some of these spaces.
Fellow Robots is one company bringing social robots to the market. The company's “Oshbot” robot is built to assist customers in a store, which can help the customers find items and help guide them to the product's location in the store. It can also speak different languages and make recommendations for different items based on what the customer is shopping for.
The more interaction the robot has with humans, the more it learns. But Oshbot, like other social robots, is not intended to replace workers, but to work alongside other employees. “We have technologies to train social robots to do things not for us, but with us,” said Breazeal.
(1)How are social robots different from household robots?
A.They are more like humans.
B.They can control their emotions.
C.They do the normal housework.
D.They respond to users more slowly.
(2)What can a Jibo robot do according to Paragraph 3?
A.Communicate with you and perform operations.
B.Obey your orders and remind you to take medicine.
C.Answer your questions and make requests.
D.Take your family pictures and deliver milk.
(3)What can Oshbot work as?
A.A language teacher.
B.A tour guide.
C.A private nurse.
D.A shop assistant.
(4)We can learn from the last paragraph that social robots will ________.
A.improve technologies
B.train employees
C.be our workmates
D.take the place of workers
(5)What does the passage mainly present?
A.An introduction to social robots.
B.Marketing strategies for social robots.
