After cutting short a trip to Europe to return to London,Cameron described Thatcher as"the patriot prime minister"and"greatest peacetime"leader.While acknowledging that she had"divided opinion",Cameron said she had"taken a country that was on its knees and made it stand tall again.""Thatcher loved this country and served it with all she had,"he added.Her other successors in No 10---Sir John Major,Tony Blair and Gordon Brown---paid tribute to her strength of character and political purpose while Labor leader Ed Miliband said Thatcher had been a"unique figure"who"reshaped the politics of a whole generation."
But critics and her opponents questioned the economic and social impact of her policies,ex-Labour leader Lord Kinnock saying her economic policies had been a"disaster for Britain"at the time.Among international reaction,Obama said"America has lost a true friend"while German Chancellor Angela Merkel said she would"never forget her part in overcoming the division of Europe".

She was in power when the UK won a war following Argentina's invasion of the Falkland Islands in 1982,but during her later years in office,she was increasingly at odds with other senior figures in the Conservative Party.

7.A.Gift giving proven to be valuable.
B.Memories from gift giving
C.Moments and events for gift giving
D.Various functions of gift giving
E.Gift giving as a wasteful practice
F.Gift giving as a two-way social activity
Gift Giving

61.C
There are many occasions(場合) for giving gifts in modern industrialized societies:birthdays,naming ceremonies,weddings,anniversaries,New Year,It is common to give gifts on many of these celebrations in western cultures.In addition,special events,such as one's first day of school or graduation from university,often require gift fiving.
62.F
What is happening when we give gifts?Most important,we are exchanging gifts.If someone gives me a gift for my birthday,I know that I am usually expected to give one on his or her next birthday.A gift builds up or confirms a social obligation(義務).
63.D
Gifts tighten personal relationships and provide a means of communication between loved ones.People say that a gift lets the recipient(接受者) know we are thinking of them,and that we want to make the person"feel special."We want people to feel wanted,to feel part of our social or family group.We give presents to say"I'm sorry."Sometimes it is difficult for us to find a present that someone will like.Sometimes we give things that we like or would feel comfortable with.In all these cases,the gifts are sending out messages-often very expressive ones.
64.B
People tend to talk about presents in a fairly loving way.A woman whose mother had died years ago described the many gifts around her house.These were gifts that her mother had given her over the years:"I appreciate these,and they mean something to me,"the woman said,"because I remember the occasions they were given on,and that they were from my mother,and the relationship we've had."The gifts remain and keep the relationship alive in mind.This woman felt the same way about the gifts she gave to others.She hoped that the recipients would look at here gifts in years to come and remember her.
65.A
Emotions(情感)like these suggest that a positive spirit still lies behind gift giving.They prove that the anthropologist Claude Levi-Strauss was wrong to say that modern western gift giving is highly wasteful.Studies in Canada and elsewhere have also shown that this is not the case.Each gift is unique even if so many are given.The emotional benefit for those who exchange gifts is the very reason for the tradition to continue.

14.This afternoon,I spoke with Governor Daniel Malloy and FBI Director Mueller.I offered Governor Malloy my condolences(哀悼) on behalf of the nation,and made it clear he will have every single resource that he needs to investigate this horrible crime,care for the victims and their families.
The majority of those who died today were children---beautiful little kids between the ages of 5and 10years old.They had their entire lives ahead of them---birthdays,graduations,weddings,kids of their own.Among the fallen were also teachers---men and women who devoted their lives to helping our children fulfill their dreams.
So our hearts are broken today---for the parents and grandparents,sisters and brothers of these little children,and for the families of the adults who were lost.Our hearts are broken for the parents of the survivors as well,for as blessed as they are to have their children home tonight,they know that their children's innocence has been torn away from them too early,and there are no words that will ease their pain.
As a country,we have been through this too many times.Whether it's an elementary school in Newtown,or a shopping mall in Oregon,or a temple in Wisconsin,or a movie theater in Aurora,or a street corner in Chicago---these neighborhoods are our neighborhoods,and these children are our children.And we're going to have to come together and take meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this,regardless of the politics.
This evening,Michelle and I will do what I know every parent in America will do,which is hug our children a little tighter and we'll tell them that we love them,and we'll remind each other how deeply we love one another.But there are families in Connecticut who cannot do that tonight.And they need all of us right now.In the hard days to come,that community needs us to be at our best as Americans.And I will do everything in my power to help.
Because while nothing can fill the space of a lost child or loved one,all of us can extend a hand to those in need---to remind them that we are there for them,that we are praying for them,that the love they felt for those they lost endures not just in their memories but also in ours.

31.Who is the speaker likely to be?D
A.A US police officer.
B.A victim parent.
C.The Connecticut governor.
D.The US president.
32.How many gun shootings has the speaker mentioned?D
A.Two.
B.Three.
C.Four.
D.Five.
33.What can we learn from this passage?A
A.The survivors may also suffer from the shooting tragedy.
B.Nothing has been done to prevent gun shooting in America.
C.The victims of this gun shooting are all kids aged from 5to 10.
D.Gun shooting is more likely to happen in American school campus.
34.The speaker wants the audienceC.
A.to investigate the crime
B.to protect themselves
C.to help those in need
D.to trust the US government.

4.Europe on Thursday launched the first satellite of its Copernicus Earth observation project that will supply valuable images in the event of natural disasters or even a plane crash.
The Sentinel-la satellite, which was sent into Earth's orbit from Europe's spaceport in French Guiana9 will be used to monitor sea ice,oil spills and land use and to respond to emergencies such as floods and earthquakes.
The Copernicus proiect, for which the European Union and the-European Space Agency (ESA) have committed funding of around 8.4 billion euros (_$_11.5 billion) until 2020,is described by the _ESA as the most ambitious earth observation program  to date.
"The big step forward is that we can now cover every place on Earth every three to six days,"Volker Liebig, director of ESA's Earth Observation program, said ahead of the launch."If you want to use images for disaster management support or to find a plane, then you want the images to be as fresh as possible."But he cautioned you would first need to know roughly where a plane had crashed, which is not the case with the missing Malaysian Airlines jet.
Copernicus also offers new business opportunities.Images can be downloaded free of charge, meaning companies can then use them to help deliver data to farmers on soil conditions or pest infestation, help oil companies decide where to drill new wells or make it easier for insurers to assess the risk of costly floods and fires.

11.Produced by Hunan Satellite TV,Where Are We Going,Dad?invites five male celebrities (名人)from different fields and their children to spend quality time together in new environments while accomplishing various survival tasks.
Since it first aired in January,2013,Where Are We Going,Dad?has been sweeping the whole nation and has become China's most popular show, averaging more than 600 million viewers each week and 640 million downloads online.Even the China Daily, the official mouthpiece of the Chinese government praised its success,"The deep affection on display in the show is heart-warming."But what accounts for the show's popularity?
Part of the appeal is the chance to peek(窺探) into the lives of popular Chinese celebrities and their children.Audiences are delighted to watch the failed attempts of celebrity dads making dinner, combing hair, and disciplining children. At the same time, the cute kids themselves and their authentic and entertaining behaviors are very impressive and attractive.
"Another reason for the success of the show lies in the fact that it is a reexamination of the father's role in traditional Chinese culture,"said Xie Dikui, general director of the show.In a society still influenced by the concept that"men rule outside and women inside.",many Chinese fathers are poor at expressing their feelings toward their children.Usually, they appear strict and distant. But on the show,we see fathers are much gentler on their kids and more involved in their upbringing. This show raises an important question for modern Chinese society-what is the role of fathers in today's China?
A fascinating part of the show is that you can see many parenting styles. The five fathers on the show all have very diverse parenting styles, which is great because it shows people there isn't just one way to raise a child. But Chinese parents increasingly realize that discussing and respecting their children's choices may be a more appropriate way to prepare them for modern society.Meanwhile, the show can remind adults of their own childhood and the love of father. For those parents, they will rethink their own responsibility as parents and understand their kids better.

8.Once many years ago,I pulled a family out of a burning car somewhere in Wyoming.Last week I received a telephone call from a woman who could not stop crying as she told me that one of my stories had saved her son from committing suicide. In closing she called me a hero.
That got me thinking about what a hero is.Was I a hero because I pulled a family from a burning car?If so,how could I be a hero just because I wrote a story that saved someone's life?
Today I looked up the word"hero"in the dictionary to see exactly what it meant. It read"a person who does something brave"and also"a person who is good and noble".
That statement impressed me more than the part about being brave. So I thought about something very important. And I remembered what happened to me years ago.
After my marriage of twenty years ended,I was in such a condition.I was within hours trying to get up enough courage to end the pain and misery. When I returned home, someone had sent me a card in the mail which told me how much they would appreciate me as a friend. That wonderful card probably saved my life. That person, without even knowing it,saved a life and became a hero.
The many stories I kept writing in the following years saved the life of a teenage boy.In turn that makes the person who sent me the card a double hero.I suppose that is why I fight so hard to help the children now living in orphanages (孤兒院).Most children come out of these institutions with a very hard and bitter attitude against the world. The gifts we send them let them know that they have not been forgotten.Hopefully, most of them will never hurt anyone because of the kindness shown to them by those of us who cared. If it works,we will also become"heroes".
56.The main idea of the passage isB
A.why the writer should be a hero
B.what a hero exactly is
C.whether the writer is a hero
D.that everyone is a hero
57.Why did the woman call the writer a hero at the end of the call?A
A.Because his story saved her son's life.
B.Because he saved a family from a burning car.
C.Because he asked her son not to kill himself.
D.Because he was cute and kind to everybody.
58.What does the underlined word"it"in the last sentence of Paragraph 5 refer to?
C
A.The wonderful card the writer received.
B.The action of sending the card.
C.The fact that the sender helped the writer.
D.The fact that the sender was a friend of the writer.
59.According to the writer, who can be considered as a hero?D
A.A person who is brave
B.A person who writes wonderful stories.
C.A person who can hold a door for others
D.A person who helps someone in trouble.
