讀寫任務。
A little boy invited his mother to attend his school's first teacher-parent meeting. When she said she
would go, he was disappointed as he had always been ashamed of his mother's scar that covered nearly
the entire right side of her face. The boy never wanted to talk about why or how she got the scar.
At the meeting, the people were impressed by the kindness and natural beauty of his mother in spite
of the scar, but the little boy was still embarrassed and hid himself from everyone. He did, however,
overhear a conversation between his mother and his teacher.
The teacher asked carefully, "How did you get the scar on your face?" The mother replied, "When my
son was a baby, he was in a room that caught fire. Everyone was too afraid to go in because the fire was
out of control, but I went in. As I was running toward his bed, I saw a long piece of wood coming down
and I placed myself over him trying to protect him. I was knocked senseless but fortunately, a fireman
came in and saved both of us." She touched the burned side of her face. "This scar will be lasting, but to
this day, I have never regretted what I did." At this point, the little boy came out running toward his
mother with tears of regret in his eyes.

A boy was ashamed of his mother's scar on the face. Knowing by accident it was caused when she
tried to rescue him from a terrible fire at the risk of her life, he was touched and regretful.
Children are said to be a gift from God for parents. Therefore, most parents are grateful for this great
gift and never hesitate to sacrifice for their children. My friend, Tom, is disabled from birth, who can only
move in a wheelchair. His parents devote all their love to him though most of their friends and relatives try
to persuade them to give birth to one more child, which may at least ensure their happy life in their late
years. Considerable difficulties are involved in looking after a disabled one, but Tom's parents make
every effort to ensure he can live as happy a life as any normal child.  Their devotion and selfless love
make Tom an active, confident boy and a top student in school, the most promising one to be admitted
to Beijing University.
Tom's story is but one of the moving stories between parents and children. No one can deny that
parents are the ones who love us most and deserve our deepest love. As children, we should always be
thankful to their love and be ready to love them in return.

It is reported that two 66-year-old men graduated this summer from Sun Yat-sen University, a well-known university in Guangzhou.
Li Yiquan, a Chinese-Singaporean, earned a postgraduate(研究生) degree in software engineering, while Ang Toon Aun, a Chinese-Malaysian, earned a bachelor's degree with a major in Chinese as a foreign language.
Li, a retired engineer, now lives in Hong Kong. His daughter also received a postgraduate degree this year, but from a British university. So she participated in his graduation ceremony in Guangzhou. Li said he had a special feeling for Sun Yat-sen University because his parents and brother graduated from there.
It wasn't easy for Li to return to school while in his 60s, he said. He failed math exams several times after beginning classes, even though he had a good foundation in math; he graduated from Hong Kong Baptist University majoring in physics 40 years ago and worked as an engineer before retiring.
Ang Toon Aun, 66, was tired of his business career, so he decided to study Chinese at the university and passed level 9, the highest level of the Chinese Test.
"There's nothing in the world that makes me happier than study," said Aun. Many old people in Malaysia were encouraged to keep studying after retirement, but few of them chose to study on campus for a degree as he did.

I’m writing to you for some advice on my studies. As you know, football is a very popular sport in the world and I am attracted to it and I have fallen in love with it, which makes me feel so crazy. I have spending lots of time doing many things related to it, like watching football matches, reading newspapers and magazines, and searching the Web for more information about football. As a result, it has certainly disturbed my normal study. Though I know to be a football fan is my hobby and my major adjective is to learn more knowledge in school, I can’t concentrate on my lessons and gradually I am tired of them. But now I can’t stop myself from getting involved further with football. So I feel very depressed and want to know how to deal with the contradiction .
