If you live in a city where everyone rushes, realize that you don't have to be like everyone else. You can be different.
I can't give you a step-by-step guide to moving slower, but here are some things to consider and perhaps adopt, if they work for your life.
1.Do less
Cut back on your projects, on your task list, on how much you try to do each day.Focus not on quantity but on quality.Pick 2 or 3 important things-or even just one important thing- and work on those first.
2.Have fewer meetings
Meetings are usually a big waste of time and make you rush.Try to have blocks of time with no interruptions, so you don't have to rush from one meeting to another.
3.Give yourself time to get ready and get there
If you're constantly rushing to appointments or other places you have to be, it's because you don't allot(分配) enough time in your schedule for preparing and for traveling.Pad your schedule to allow time for this stuff. If you think it only takes you 10 minutes to get ready for work or a date, perhaps give yourself 30 to 45 minutes so you don't have to shave in a rush or put on makeup in the car.
4.Practice being comfortable with sitting doing nothing
When people have to wait, they become impatient or uncomfortable.Try standing in a line and just watching and listening w people around you.It takes practice, but after a while, you’ll do it with a smile.
5.Realize that if it doesn't get done, that's Ok.
There's always tomorrow. And yes, I know that's a frustrating attitude for some of you who don't like laziness or living without firm deadlines, but it's also reality. The world likely won't end if you don't get that task done today.Your boss might get mad, but the company won't collapse and the life will inevitably go on.
Try these things out.Life is better when unrushed.
Remember the quote: If nature can get everything done without rushing, so can you.

Reading is not the only way to gain knowledge of the work in the past. There is another large reservoir (知識庫) which may be called experience, and the college students will find that every craftsman (工匠) has something he can teach and will generally teach gladly to any college student who does not look down upon them. The information from them differs from that in textbooks and papers chiefly in that its theoretical (理論的) part -- the explanations of why things happen -- is frequently quite fantastic (神奇的) . But the demonstration (示范) and report of what happens, and how it happens are correct even if the reports are in completely unscientific terms. Presently the college students will learn, in this case also, what to accept and what to reject. One important thing for a college student to remember is that if Aristotle could talk to the fisherman, so can he.
Another source of knowledge is the vast store of traditional practices handed down from father to son , or mother to daughter, of old country customs ,of folklore (風俗). All this is very difficult for a college student to examine, for much knowledge and personal experience is needed here to separate good plants from wild grass. The college students should learn to realize and remember how much of real value science has found in this wide, confused wilderness and how often scientific discoveries of what had existed in this area long age.
【小題1】 In the last paragraph the phrase "this wide, confused wilderness" refers to _____.
A.personal experience |
B.wild weeds among good plants |
C.the information from the parents |
D.the vast store of traditional practices |
A.The college students have trouble separating good plants from wild grass |
B.Craftsman’s experience is usually unscientific |
C.The contemptuous (傲慢的) college students will receive nothing from craftsmen |
D.Traditional practices are as important as experience for the college students |
A.be contemptuous to the craftsman |
B.be patient in helping the craftsman with scientific terms |
C.learn the craftsman’s experience by judging it carefully |
D.gain the craftsman’s experience without rejection |
A.what to learn from the parents | B.how to gain knowledge |
C.why to learn from craftsman | D.how to deal with experience |

An allergy (過敏反應) is a strong reaction to a substance. Many things can cause allergies. The most common cause is pollen (花粉), which is usually produced by trees in the spring, grasses in the summer and weeds in the fall, as part of their reproductive process.
Other causes include organisms, chemicals, plants and dead skin particles (微粒) from dogs and cats can also cause allergic reactions. So can insect stings and some food.
The most common kind of allergic reactions is itchy (癢的), watery eyes and a blocked or watery nose. Allergies can also cause red, itchy skin. Some reactions can be life-threatening, for example, when breathing passages become blocked.
It is not always easy to avoid allergies. Drugs may offer an effective treatment. Another treatment used in some cases is called immunotherapy (免疫療法). A patient is injected with small amounts of the allergy-causing substance. The idea is that larger and larger amounts are given over time until the patient develops a resistance in his body.
In the United States, experts estimate that up to 8% of young children have food allergies. Every year these allergies cause about 30,000 cases with severe reactions that require immediate treatment. It can result in breathing trouble and in some cases death. It is said that about 100 to 200 people will die. It says most of the reactions are caused by peanuts and tree nuts like walnuts.
People can also be allergic to medicines. The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology says about 10% of bad reactions to commonly used medicines are allergic. It's common for kids of all ages to experience school anxiety - school-related stress. This is often most apparent at the end of summer when school is about to start again, but it can occur year-round.Where does the stress and anxiety come from?
Teachers
A good experience with a caring teacher can cause a lasting impression on a child's life—so can a bad experience. While most teachers do their best to provide students with a positive educational experience, some students are better suited for certain teaching styles and classroom types than others. If there's a mismatch (不協(xié)調(diào)) between student and teacher, a child can form lasting negative feelings about school or his own abilities.
Friends
Friends can also be a source of stress.Concerns about not having enough friends, not being in the same class as friends, not being able to keep up with friends in one particular area or another, and interpersonal conflicts are a few of the very common ways kids can be stressed by their social lives at school.Dealing with these issues alone can cause anxiety in even the most confident kids.
Bullies (欺凌弱小者)
Things have changed in the world of bullies since I was a kid.The good news is that
teachers and parents are paying more attention. Many schools now have anti-bullying pro-
grams and policies.Though bullying does still happen, help is generally more easily accessible
than before.
The bad news is that bullying has gone high-tech.Many students use the Internet, cell phones and other media devices to bully other students, and this type of bullying often gets very aggressive. One reason is that bullies can be anonymous (匿名的) and enlist other bullies to make their targets miserable.Another reason is that they don't have to face their targets. So it's easier to get rid of any empathy that they may otherwise feel. There are ways to fight against "cyber-bullying", but many parents aren't aware of them - and many bullied kids feel too overwhelmed to deal with the situation.
