One silly question I simply can't understand is "How do you feel?" Usually the question I asked of a man's action-a man on the go, walking along the street or busily working at his desk. So what do you expect him to say? He'll probably say," Fine, I'm all right," but you've put a bug in his ear. ——Maybe now he's not sure. If you are a good friend, you may have seen something in his face, or his walk, that he overlooked(忽略)that morning. It starts him worrying a little. First thing you know, he looks in a mirror to see if everything is all right, while you go merrily on your way asking someone else. "How do you feel?"

Every question has its time and place. It's perfectly acceptable, for example, to ask "How do you feel?" if you're visiting a close friend in hospital. But if the fellow is walking on both legs, hurrying take a train, or sitting at his desk working, it's no time to ask him that silly question.

When George Bernard Shaw, the famous writer of plays, was in his eighties, someone asked him, "How do you feel?" Shaw put him in his place. "When you reach my age," he said, "either you feel all right or you're dead."

According to the writer, greetings such as "how do you feel"_______.

       A. show one's consideration for others.       B. are a good way to make friends

       C. are proper to ask a man in action          D. generally make one feel uneasy.

The question "How do you feel" seems to be correct and suitable when asked of________.

      A. a man working at his desk.     B. a person having lost a close friend.

      C. a stranger who looks worried.       D. a friend who is ill.

The writer seems to feel that a busy man should _______.

       A. be praised for his efforts.      B. never be asked any question.

       C. not be bothered(煩擾).              D. be discouraged from working so hard.

You've put a bug in his ear means that you've ________.

      A. made him laugh.             B. shown concern for him

      C. made fun of him             D.  given him some kind of warning.

John Smith was lazy. He had finished his education and was happy to sit in his room and listen to the radio all day long. In fact, he had been doing nothing for almost six months, which worried his father a lot. One day Mr Smith decided that he had to do something. “Johnny, When I was your age 1 was working and supporting my ten brothers and sisters. I want you to go out and get a job.” So that was what he did. In fact, in the next three months, Johnny started ten jobs and was fired from ten jobs. He explained to his father.
“They wanted me to be at work at 8:00 a. m. and told me to do all sorts of unpleasant things.”
“I don’t care how you do it,” Mr Smith said. “Either you earn some money or move out of the house. I gave you one week’s time.”
In the next few days Johnny began to change. He still stayed in his room all day, but spent his time writing letters and reading through the newspapers. More and more posts began to arrive for him. He bought a new suit for himself and invited his parents to the theatre and for dinner afterwards at the most expensive restaurant in town. When his proud parents arrived home after their evening hour, a policeman was waiting at the front door.
“John Smith,” he said as he handed him a piece of paper, “I’ll see you in the court tomorrow.”
When he got outside, Johnny told his parents everything.
“When you told me to earn some money, 1 decided to put an advertisement in the newspaper saying, ‘New way to money fast! Send me 5 and I’ll tell you my secret.’ When I received the money I wrote back telling people to do as I do.” Johnny was fined 250 by the court and was ordered to pay all the people back. As he left the court house feeling very ashamed, a newspaper man came up to him, “Young man, would you like to tell your story to my newspaper for $ 2500?”

Every system of the body responds to laughter in some important or positive way .
【小題2】________________.
Many people mistakenly believe that we are born with a sense of humour. They think that when it comes to a sense of humour. “either you have got it or you don't .” This is false! What is true, however, is that the ability to laugh and smile is actually something we are born with. For example, we laugh when we are tickled under the arm, even without thinking about how to react.
【小題3】_______________.
The parts of the brain and central nervous system that control laughing and smiling are mature at birth in human infants, but that is not the same thing as having a sense of humour. (After all, when a baby laughs in his small bed we don’t rush over and say, “That kid has a great sense of humour!”) Your sense of humour is something you can develop over a lifetime. Don’t be nervous before others and try to laugh at yourself-then you will make them laugh too.
【小題4】_______________.
Humour includes a lot more than laughing and joke telling. Many people worry needlessly that they do not have a good sense of humour because they are not good joke tellers. More than jokes, a sense of humour requires being willing and able to see the funny side of life’s situations as they happen. In fact, one of the best definitions(定義)of a sense of humour is “the ability to see the non-serious element in a situation.”
【小題5】_____________.
There may be a thousand different ways to express your sense of humour, but joke telling is only one of those ways. As more is discovered about how humour benefits our life, more people will be able to see and enjoy the humour when they are in a difficult situation. Life depends on air, food and water, but it is made easier to live with a good sense of humour.

科目:高中英語(yǔ) 來(lái)源:2014屆浙江嘉興第一中學(xué)高三上期摸底英語(yǔ)卷(解析版) 題型:完型填空

In a world where comparisons happen non-stop, it is difficult to look outside yourself and to ever be   21   with who you are. There’s always someone who’s a bit   22  . The only solution is to reach   23   and measure against what Warren Buffett calls your own inner yardstick. There is no more   24   measure for comparison than who your were yesterday, last week or last decade, when you were at your   25  .

Nothing useful ever comes from comparison to others .Either you see yourself as better than someone and you get   26  , or you see someone else as better than you and you feel like all your hard work is for   27  . It is a fool’s game. Not one of us is exactly   28  . The only direct and honest comparison is   29   yourself. Everything else is apples to oranges.

My opinion is that you are only   30   to compare yourself to someone else if their life   31   is the same as your own. Good luck finding that   32  . And one thing is for sure. No matter how hard you work and how dedicated(埋頭苦干的)you are, there will always be someone who can run a little faster, jump a little higher, score a little better or look a little nicer in a swimsuit. And if there’s not, you can   33   someone is coming up fast   34   you. So how can you always win in life? Become your best   35  .

Having an image of your most recent past limits is the perfect thing to   36   you to the next level. If you ran 7 flights of stairs yesterday, then do 8 today. Who   37   if the guy next to you did 15? It doesn’t make a bit of   38  . You are a more   39   person today than you were yesterday. Your own   40   is all you need.
