14.A few years ago I had an"aha!"moment regarding handwriting.
I had in my hand a sheet of paper with handwritten instructions on it for some sort of editorial task.It occurred at first that I did not recognize the handwriting,and then I realized whose it must be.I finally became aware of the fact that I had been working with this colleague for at least a year,maybe two,and yet I did not recognize her handwriting at that point.
It was a very important event in the computerization of life-a sign that the informal,friendly communication of people working together in an office had changed from notes in pen to instant messages and emails.There was a time when our workdays were filled with little letters,and we recognized one another's handwriting the way we knew voices or faces.
As a child visiting my father's office,I was pleased to recognize,in little notes on the desks of his staff,the same handwriting I would see at home in the notes he would leave on the fridge-except that those notes were signed"dad"instead of"RFW".
All this has been on my mind because of the talk about The Rise and Fall of Handwriting,a book by Florey.She shows in her book a deep concern about the fall of handwriting and the failure of schools to teach children to write well,but many others argue that people in a digital age can't be expected to learn to hold a pen.
I don't buy it.
I don't want to see anyone cut off from the expressive,personal associations that a pen still promotes better than a digital keyboard does.For many a biographer,part of really getting to know their subjects is learning to read their handwriting.
What some people advocate is teaching one of the many attractive handwritings based on the handwriting of 16th-century Italy.That may sound impossibly grand-as if they want kids to learn to draw by copying classical paintings.However,they have worked in many school systems.

33.Why was the author surprised at not recognizing his colleague's handwriting?A
A.He had worked with his colleague long enough.
B.His colleague's handwriting was so beautiful.
C.His colleague's handwriting was so terrible.
D.He still had a 1ot of work to do.
34.The author's father wrote notes in penA.
A.to both his family and his staff
B.to his family in small letters
C.to his family on the fridge
D.to his staff on the desk
35.According to the author,handwritten notesC.
A.a(chǎn)re harder to teach in schools
B.a(chǎn)ttract more attention
C.a(chǎn)re used only between friends
D.carry more message.

I had been working with this colleague for at least a year, maybe two,and yet I did not recognize her handwriting我和這個(gè)同事工作了至少一年,也許兩年了,但我沒(méi)有認(rèn)出她的筆跡.可知答案選A.
34.A 細(xì)節(jié)理解題.由第四段I was pleased to recognize…h(huán)is staff…the same I would see at home…我很高興地認(rèn)識(shí)到…他的員工…我在家也一樣.可知答案選A.
35.C 推理判斷題.由倒數(shù)第二段第一句the expressive, personal associations that a pen still promotes better than a digital keyboard does.

4.For as early as I could remember,my mother had been a bright, cheerful woman deeply interested and involved in the world around her. However,in the last fifteen years of her life, she had to live with senile dementia (老年癡呆).I would go to my home to pay her a visit in California and she would curiously look at me and then ask,"Who are you?"I would answer,"I'm your own son,of course.""Where do you live?"She would ask."In Virginia",I would tell her."Isn't that interesting,"she would say,"I have a son in Virginia."
Mother seemed only forgetful as well as confused at the beginning of that disease, but sometime later she would go through different time of intense anxiety. She would keep walking through the house she used to live in most of her life crying uneasily that she would like to go home.Or sometimes she left home and wandered away if she were unattended(無(wú)人照看) for a short time.
Hoping to make her happy and put her mind at ease I would take her in my car, visiting sites where she used to live when she was a child. In the yard of the hillside house in Shipman I sat in the car and admired the view of the old oaks and long green lawn.I pictured my mother that there was a little girl playing with the pet lamb she had been so fond of.I looked to her for some response. She shook her head and said,"I want to go home."
Over the years I have decided that what my mother was calling home was not a place, but a time.I think it was a time when she was much younger, when her children were still underfoot, when her husband was still energetic and attentive.
Watching my mother's suffering set me wondering where I would have in mind if someday I couldn't find home and wanted to go there. In this family we tend to be long-lived and we grow fuzzy (糊涂的) minded as the years go by.At eighty I have already noticed some alarming symptoms(癥狀).My doctor says the forgetfulness is only natural and that it comes with age.Still the fear of senile dementia is haunting there.Someday if and when I become even more cloudy minded than I am now, unable to drive and unable to tell you where"home"is,my dear son,I expect I will ask you to take me home,I know you will do your best to find the place I need to be.I leave these notes for your guidance.

5.Selfies (自拍) have become an increasingly common way to capture memorable moments.When it comes to taking selfies,knowing the following tips can directly affect the quality of your final product.
The use of light is vital to improving image quality.Lights can help avoid shadows and create soft features on your face,so turn your face toward the main light source.If you want to be creative,play with light angles by turning your body,but make sure the photo is properly exposed and your face is lit from the front or the side.Besides,avoid taking selfies against the main light source or with overhead lighting.Additionally,natural light possesses a warmth that makes you look like you're glowing.
When taking selfies,angles also matter a lot.Hold the camera away from your face,and try to take photos both horizontally and vertically.If not,your face might look bigger than usual.Ideally,the universal selfie angle is 45 degrees above your head.But you should study your face at different angles because finding your best angle requires you having seen all of them.
One problem with selfies is that most have distracting backgrounds.You can always do more to show others your best side.Try to simplify the background by taking selfies outdoors or in spacious areas.Document yourself engaging in interesting activities--hiking with family members,visiting landmarks,or working out with friends.At least,you can make the photo appealing by getting rid of your outstretched arm or a background that's too busy.
You can also download some photo apps that allow you to adjust the lighting and contrast.Some apps offer useful filters,which can change your skin tone and eliminate pimples (粉刺) on your face.

25.To get an image of high quality,you need toC.
A.be under the light source B.be against the main light
C.face the main light source D.have the photo fully exposed
26.How can you find the angle that suits you most?A
A.Study your face at different angles.
B.Hold the camera far enough from you.
C.Keep the camera lower than your face.
D.Place the camera 45 degrees above your head.
27.Which of the following should be avoided when taking selfies?D
A.The use of natural light.B.A landmark as a background.
C.Changes of the skin tone.D.A busy background.

4.French writer Frantz Fanon once said:"To speak a language is to take on a world,a culture."Since the world changes every day,so does our language.
More than 300new words and phrases have recently made it into the online Oxford Dictionary,and in one way or another they are all reflections of today's changing world.
After a year that was politically unstable,it's not hard to understand the fact that people's political views are one of the main drives of our expanding vocabulary.One example is"otherize".It is a verb for"other"that means to alienate (使疏遠(yuǎn)) people who are different from ourselves-whether that be different skin color,religious belief or sexuality."We had all the words around Brexit (脫歐) in the last update and we are now starting to see all the words around Trump coming into the dictionary,"Angus Stevenson,Oxford Dictionaries'head of content development,told The Guardian.
Lifestyle is also changing our language.For example,"fitspiration"-a compound of"fit"and"inspiration"-refers to a person or thing that encourages one to exercise and stay fit and healthy.The phrase"climate refugee"-someone who is forced to leave their home due to climate change-reflects people's concern for the environment.
But still,not all newly-invented words get the chance to make their way into a mainstream dictionary.If you want to create your own hit words,Stevenson's suggestion is that you should not only make sure that they are expressive and meaningful,but also have an attractive sound so that people will enjoy saying them out loud.

21.What's the meaning of"fitspiration"?B
A.The people who have healthy spirit.
B.Someone or something that helps people keep fit.
C.A lifestyle with fit and positive spirit.
D.The people who often do exercises to keep fit.
22.Which word reflects our care about the surroundings?A
A.climate refugee
B.otherize
C.clicktivism
D.fitspiration
23.According to Stevenson,what should you do if you want to create your own hit words?D
A.Make sure that they are expressive and meaningful as much as possible.
B.Ask for valuable advice from language experts.
C.Try to imitate the words in a mainstream dictionary.
D.Make the words meaningful with fascinating sound.
