When people succeed,it is because of hard work, but luck has a lot to do with it.Napoleon once said all the hard work and talent in the world can't make up for bad luck. However, hard work can invite good luck.
When it comes to success, luck can mean being in the right place to meet someone.Nothing can replace hard work, but working hard also means you're preparing yourself for opportunity.
How many of the great inventions and discoveries came about through a lucky mistake or a lucky chance? One of the biggest lucky mistakes in history is Columbus' so-called discovery of America. He changed history, but he was really looking for India. It was backed up by years of studying and calculating.

【題目】閱讀理解
After years of research and testing, the hybrid car was developed and put on the market. It' s an interesting and exciting new improvement in today' s world as we look for better ways to protect the quality of the air we breathe and conserve our natural resources.
The quality of our air is affected by many different things. But one of the largest sources of air pollution is the burning of fossil fuels such as coal and gasoline which is used to power a car' s engine. The EPA has set national standards to help control the level of harmful pollutants sent off into the air, and the automobile industry has acted by producing a hybrid car that uses less gas and therefore causes less pollution.
A hybrid car is a combination of a regular car that runs on gasoline and an electric car that is battery powered. Some people tend to think that since the hybrid car is partially electric, you have to plug it in to charge it. But that's not how it works. The 144-volt battery pack is actually recharged through the energy that is produced when the car's brakes are used. This is referred to as “regenerative braking”, because it generates electricity.
Although the hybrid car still runs on gasoline most of the time, this helps it use less gas than a regular car. When the driver stops at a traffic light, the engine automatically shuts off to save fuel. Then, as soon as the driver puts the car in gear and touches the gas pedal, the engine starts back up.
Have you ever ridden in a car with someone who ran out of gas? That probably wouldn't happen if you were riding in a hybrid car. It flashes a warning on its computer screen that says, “I am low on gas”. When it completely runs out, the warning reads, “YOU ARE NOW OUT OF GAS!” Then the electric power supply kicks in to let the driver travel a few more miles to a gas station.
(1)Which of the following is true according to the passage?
A.The hybrid car will be put on the market.
B.Hybrid cars run faster than regular cars.
C.When the hybrid car stops at a traffic light, the driver will get a warning.
D.The burning of fossil fuels is one of the largest sources of air pollution.
(2)According to the passage, the word “hybrid” refers to ________.
A.a high-tech discovery
B.energy saving
C.a new invention
D.a combination of two things
(3)“Regenerative breaking” is an important process of the hybrid car because ________.
A.it allows the car to come to a quick stop
B.it gives the driver a smoother ride
C.it produces energy to charge the battery
D.it can control the speed of the car
(4)Which of the following is right about the EPA?
A.They designed hybrid cars.
B.They outlawed (宣布……為不合法) the burning of fossil fuels.
C.They set important guidelines that help control pollution.
D.Their main purpose is to protect endangered plants and animals.
(5)Which of the following is the reason for developing hybrid cars?
A.They use less gas than regular cars.
B.They' re safer to drive than most cars.
C.They're more modern than other cars.
D.They cost less than regular cars.

科目:高中英語(yǔ) 來(lái)源: 題型:

【題目】What makes you grow? While rolling many ideas around in my head lo write this piece. I narrowed my focus a bit and chose: family and sense of purpose.

My family keeps me excited to be alive-beginning the day with a morning kiss from the man I love. He is there to listen and guide, to laugh and sigh, to explore and relax, and to make each day meaningful. Together we have three delightful children. Even though they have caused various gray hairs over the years, they have also provided love and laughter.

Friends fall into the family category (范疇) as well. Although they are not cut of the same cloth, they are part of the same quilt. True friends are often as giving .and maybe even more giving as family. Even though our friends enter our life later than our family, strong relation exists. In fact, sometimes friends know us better than family.

The second drive is a sense of purpose. While impossible to describe, it is very easy to picture as we think of even thing of value that touches us. A purpose may be a happy family, home life, and so on. Actually in most cases it is a combination of all these as they affect our lives deeply.

Purpose is new, fresh, exciting and always changing. You’re taking up the same job each day except sometimes challenged. I always wanted to be a teacher, for example, and I chose junior high French. However, over the years my tasks changed so that I had various opportunities to teach K-12 and beyond in a wide range of subjects, levels and school districts. I remained in the same profession for more than 40 years but never in the same setting.

C. A friend in need is a friend indeed.

D. Blood is thicker than water.

4What can be inferred from the last paragraph?

A. Everyone has his own purpose.

B. Purpose needs to be flexible.

C. Teachers must be knowledgeable.

D. Teaching is very difficult in America.

科目:高中英語(yǔ) 來(lái)源: 題型:

【題目】選擇合適的選項(xiàng)補(bǔ)全短文。
A class teacher, in my opinion, plays an important role in a child's development. This year, she is moving to Class Three and I can't wait to see how things are going on.
Last year, my daughter did not like her teacher at all. It was so bad that she did not look forward to school. It was a year full of trouble and that worries.
This year, Miss Purity is gentle and humorous. It's hard not to like her..
She becomes an early bird. Last year, mornings were like a fight because I had to force Tasha to hurry up when she was preparing for school. I had to pull her out of bed, tell her to take breakfast and then drove her to school. But now, our mornings are like a party. She wakes up early, prepares everything at a high speed and then rushes to school to be with Miss Purity.
She's happy. She enjoys school and school work and keeps talking about what they did at school when she comes home.
She's responsible. But now she never forgets even her water bottle at school. She makes her bed and helps in the kitchen.
Her diary is full of praises. The diary is the tool of communication between the teacher and the parents. Last year, her diary was always full of negative reports. One time, she poured water in a child's lunchbox, another time she threw another kid's textbook in the toilet. She's always volunteering to clean the blackboard, the teacher's chair and desk.
Finishing her classwork was such a big problem. She had to do it at home. But now, she finished both the classwork and homework at school.
A. Here are the changes in my daughter.
B. Now she began to share her snacks with those who did not have anything.
C. Every year when my daughter moves to a new class, I have a usual big worry—her new class teacher.
D. Her diary was good.
E. She has a good class teacher.

【題目】It was the summer of 1965. DeLuca, then 17, visited Peter Buck, a family friend. Buck asked DeLuca about his plans for the future. “I’m going to college, but I need a way to pay for it,” DeLuca recalls saying. “Buck said, ‘You should open a sandwich shop.’ ”

That afternoon, they agreed to be partners. And they set a goal: to open 32 stores in ten years. After doing some research, Buck wrote a check for $1000. DeLuca rented a storefront(店面) in Connecticut, and when they couldn’t cover their start-up costs, Buck kicked in another $1000.

But business didn’t go smoothly as they expected. DeLuca says, “After six months, we were doing poorly, but we didn’t know how badly, because we didn’t have any financial controls.” All he and Buck knew was that their sales were lower than their costs.

DeLuca was managing the store and going to the University of Bridgeport at the same time. Buck was working at his day job as a nuclear physicist in New York. They’d meet Monday evenings and brainstorm ideas for keeping the business running. “We convinced ourselves to open a second store. We figured we could tell the public, ‘We are so successful, we are opening a second store.’ ” And they did—in the spring of 1966. Still, it was a lot of learning by trial and error.

But the partners’ learn-as-you-go approach turned out to be their greatest strength. Every Friday, DeLuca would drive around and hand-deliver the checks to pay their suppliers. “It probably took me two and a half hours and it wasn’t necessary, but as a result, the suppliers got to know me very well, and the personal relationships established really helped out,” DeLuca says.

And having a goal was also important. “There are so many problems that can get you down. You just have to keep working toward your goal,” DeLuca adds.

DeLuca ended up founding Subway Sandwich, the multimillion-dollar restaurant chain.

D. wanted to make believe that they were successful

4What contribute most to their success according to the author?
