The last thing you want is a bad grade on a paper that took a lot of hard work and time. 1. To be successful in school, you have to make sure you know what assignments you're supposed to complete. And know exactly how and when you're expected to complete each assignment. So, you need to talk with the teacher. 2.

You don't have to become a person who looks stupid and follows the teacher around. 3. However, you should check in with your teacher every time he or she assigns a project that is new or unfamiliar.

You should also communicate with your teacher if you receive a poor grade unexpectedly. Teachers are humans, and they make mistakes. 4. Be polite. Your teacher will explain (and maybe appreciate the opportunity to fix any potential mistakes).

5. On test view day, pay attention and ask if there are any themes or patterns that are covered during the test period. Ask the teacher to explain any terms or exercises that aren't absolutely clear to you.

A. What a nightmare(噩夢)!

B. But when should you talk to a teacher?

C. If the teacher provides an email address, use if often!

D. Don’t be a pest, and don't call your teacher after dinnertime.

E. You don't have to speak to the teacher at the end of every class.

F. If you don't understand why your grade is low, go ask!

G. You should also ask questions any time a big test day is approaching.

Susan Boyle was once a Scottish church volunteer. She decided to enter a competition named “British got Talent” at the age of 47years. On April 15th 2009, when Susan got up to sing, the audience was shocked by her age and simplicity.

Middle-aged women were not the usual type of competitor on the show and the audience was even more surprised when she said before starting to sing that she wanted to become a professional singer. To them she looked well past such possibilities. However, she amazed everybody with her wonderful voice and became an overnight singing star. It was reported that the audience all stood up and clapped warmly and that within 9 days, 100 million people had watched her performances and interviews on the Internet.

This was a lot of progress for an unemployed woman who lived along with her cat. Most of her life had been spent looking after her mother who had died aged 92, two years earlier. She had never been married or in her words, “been kissed”. Susan had learned difficulties and had only once been employed as an assistant cook.

Even though Susan did not win the “British got Talent Show” and came up second, two years later, she already released two successful albums. Many people are touched by her story because Susan Boyle is like each of us in one way or another—full of weakness, often disappointed and mocked at by others. However, unlike many of us who usually give up too soon, she had the determination to fight for her dream. Susan Boyle launched her successful music career at the age of 48 and you too can still achieve your dream. Just take courage.

Best friends may be priceless but the cost of keeping the relationship alive is £23,870.

According to a study, a BFF (best friends forever) does not come cheap with devoted friends spending £4,679 on birthday presents alone over a lifetime. And while it costs nothing to be a shoulder to cry on, big-hearted Britons go the extra mile and spend £168 on pick-me-ups(提神物品) to get their mate through a rocky patch (艱難時刻)like the breakup of a relationship.

There’s a further £242 spent on presents to show how much they mean from gifts bought on holiday to treats for no reason. And distance does not break up a close friendship as BFFs spend a whopping(巨大的) £18,000 on travel to see each other despite being miles apart because of university, jobs and marriage.

The study by cashback site TopCashBack found on average BEFs who marry can expect £431 spent on them and a further £283 on gifts when they have children. And they can rely on their pals to help out when they move houses as they will obtain £127 worth of housewarming presents and takeaways(a kind of food).

The survey based on a friendship lasting 40 years found more than eight in ten adults with a BFF felt their friendships were worth every penny.

TopCashback spokesperson Natasha Smith said: “Those friendships which stand the test of time are often the most important in our lives. However, they come at a cost. From train tickets once a month to flights and a new dress for a wedding on the Italian coast, the price paid for having a best mate can soon add up. But when we asked people to compare their friendship with the financial investment(投資), only 14% thought their friendship was equal to their investment with the vast majority thinking it was worth more."

1. What does the underlined word in Paragraph 2 mean?

A. generous B. ambitious

C. troublesome D. energetic

2.To keep the relationship, where do BEFs spend the most money?

A. Buying birthday presents.

B. Cheering up a friend in low spirits.

C. Paying for holiday gifts and other treats.

D. Going a particular distance to visit friends.

3.What is Natasha’s understanding of BEF friendship?

A. It’s costly and unaffordable.

B. It’s expensive but worthwhile.

C. It’s rewarding but hard to keep.

D. It’s changeable but worth possessing.

4. How is the passage developed?

A. By listing figures.

B. By giving examples.

C. By analying causes.

D. By making comparisons.
