During summer holidays, two classmates, Tom and Peter, were traveling in the desert. As they were walking, they had an argument, and Tom was so angry that he slapped Peter hard across the face. Peter felt hurt, but without saying anything, he wrote down in the sand these words: “Today my best friend Tom slapped me in the face.”
It was very hot, but they kept on walking and walking until they found an oasis(綠洲), where they decided to take a bath. Suddenly Peter got stuck in the mire(泥潭) and started drowning. Seeing that, Tom rushed over and saved him without any hesitation. After Peter got recovered from the drowning, he wrote with a knife on a stone: “Today my best friend Tom saved my life.”
Feeling curious, Tom, who had slapped and saved his best friend, asked Peter, “After I beat you, you wrote something in the sand but just now you put down what I had done on a stone. Why?”
Peter replied: “When someone hurts us, we should take it down in the sand where winds of forgiveness can erase it away. But when someone does something good for us, we must carve it in stone where no wind can ever erase it.”
Hearing that, Tom was deeply moved and understood what Peter had said and what he had done.

What I have learnt from Tom’s understanding?

1.                               What I have learnt from Tom’s understanding?
While traveling in the desert, Tom slapped Peter’s face for arguments, and Peter wrote it down in the sand. But when Tom saved Peter’s life, Peter carved that down on a stone, which moved Tom deeply. 
In this story, Tom was moved by Peter because he could forget the unhappy things and forgive him. However, for the life saved, he could remember and value it forever in his memory. I think how to get along well with friends and how to deal with others’ kindness and rudeness was what he understood. As for me, not everyone can have such kind of good attitude and behavior towards the things happening among us. But Peter was different.
“Attitude is everything!” Try to be kind to the people who have done something unpleasant to you, and grateful to the people who have done good for you. A friend in need is a friend indeed and true friends never come easily. We should try our best to develop good friendship among us.
2.                              What I have learnt from Tom’s understanding?
While traveling in the desert, Tom slapped Peter’s face, and Peter wrote it down in the sand. But when he was saved, Peter carved that down on a stone, which moved Tom deeply.  ( 33w )
In this story, Tom was touched by Peter’s actions because he was ready to forgive others by forgetting unhappy things and he would remember and value it forever in his memory when his life was saved. I think what Tom understood was how to get along well with friends and how to deal with others’ kindness and rudeness.
As for me, not everyone has the same good virtues and behavior as Peter if such things happen to us. In my eyes, Peter is really our role model. “Attitude is everything!” So let’s try to be kind to people who have done something unpleasant to us, and grateful to those who have done us favors. Anyway, true friendship never comes easily.  ( 120 w)

It has been reported that a middle school in Guangzhou City has recently launched (發(fā)起)a campaign named “Away from Net-bar”. With the nearing of the summer vacation, this campaign is especially meaningful for the healthy development of the minors(未成年人).
The Internet has brought people great convenience in getting information, entertainment and contact with others, and it has also benefited some businessmen, especially the owner of net-bars. While it is true that most net-bars are running legally, it is also true that some are offering unhealthy programs(軟件)that involve(涉及) violence and sex content(色情). Since most middle school students are prone to be influenced and they can hardly tell which bars are doing well and which ones are not, it is only advisable that they stay away from all. Besides, staying away from net-bars also does good to students’ physical health. By passively sitting too long in front of the computer screen, both their eyesight and physique(體格;身體的發(fā)育)suffer.

I found that my way of learning English that I formed from middle school still works today. By listening to tapes and imitating the speakers one can improve his pronunciation within a short time. By reciting classic essays one can enrich their language as well as enlarge their vocabulary. As a non-English major, I like to set aside a certain period of time for English learning every day, usually an hour or at least half an hour. I utilize this precious time by listening to tapes and imitating their content and then reciting the short passages I like. To be frank, “Crazy English” has always been my favorite. This is definitely not intended to flatter. Instead of dividing my attention between too many materials, I’d rather concentrate on one particular resource at a time such as CE, not only because of its abundant content and native English, but also because of the benefits it has brought to me through intensive reading, listening and reciting, I believe that studying English by using these intensive methods will help you to get twice the result with half the effort.
