18.By day,Clark Kent is a journalist who fights for truth and disadvantaged groups in Metropolis.But when the shy man removes his glasses,Clark Kent is gone.He becomes Superman.Not even his colleagues,including Lois Lane who often reports stories about Superman,realize that the flying superhero works with them.Personally,I've always found Superman's"disguise (偽裝)"extremely funny,but then again it's just something you accept as part of the Superman universe.However,obviously wearing glasses does indeed make it hard for people to recognize you,according to a recent study.
People of Metropolis are not the fools everyone thinks they are.Researchers from University of York's Department of Psychology showed participants faces of people.The pictures were presented in pairs in three groups:glasses-wearing faces,a pair with only one person wearing glasses,and finally a pair with no one wearing glasses.Each participant had to judge whether the faces shown in each pair were the same person or not.
In those cases where both of the faces wore glasses or where neither wore glasses,participants were right 80percent of the time.When one face wore glasses,and the other didn't,participants were much less able to identify when the same person was there,scoring about six percent lower.
These findings suggest that,generally,people find it difficult to match strangers'faces.When they wear glasses,the challenge is even greater.
Besides proving Clark Kent could have actually made it,the results could be useful to improve the security of passports and other ID cards.
"We hope that this research can be used by governments to help inform future policies on identification for security purposes, particularly in the UK where individuals who normally wear glasses are required to remove them for their identification cards,"the researchers wrote.

29.What did the author think of Superman's disguise?A
A.Unnecessary.
B.Logical.
C.Smart.
D.Unique.
30.What were the participants supposed to do with each pair of faces?B
A.Understand the importance of wearing glasses.
B.Tell whether they belong to the same person or not.
C.Explore the differences between the two faces.
D.Realize how wearing glasses can trick people.
31.How can the research finding be applied to the UK's security policies?D
A.Passports would include more pictures of a person.
B.Individuals have to take off their glasses in public.
C.All the passports and ID cards need to be updated.
D.People could probably wear glasses for their ID cards.
32.What would be the best title for the text?C
A.A study on wearing glasses.
B.Why does Superman wear glasses?
C.Superman's disguise is not that stupid.
D.Remove your glasses for security purposes.

8.Many facts suggest that children are overweight and the situation is getting worse,according to the doctors. I feel there are a number of reasons for this.
Some people blame the fact that we are surrounded (包圍) by shops selling unhealthy,fatty foods,such as fried chicken and ice cream,at low prices. This has turned out a whole generation of grown-ups who seldom cook a meal for themselves. If there were fewer of these restaurants,then probably children would buy less take-away food.
There is another argument that blames parents for allowing their children to become overweight. I agree with this,because good eating habits begin early in life,long before children start to visit fast food shops. If children are given fried chicken and chocolate rather than healthy food,or are always allowed to choose what they eat,they will go for sweet and salty foods every time,and this will carry on throughout their lives.
There is a third reason for this situation. Children these days take very little exercise. They do not walk to school. When they get home,they sit in front of the television or their computers and play computer games. Not only is this an unhealthy pastime(消遣),it also gives them time to eat more unhealthy food.What they need is to go outside and play active games or sports.
The above are the main reasons for this problem, and therefore we have to encourage young people to be more active,as well as steering them away from fast food shops and bad eating habits.

28.According to the text,what kind of children may eat more unhealthy food?B
A.Those who often take exercise.
B.Those who often watch television.
C.Those who often have meals at home.
D.Those who often walk to school.
29.The author thinks that children are becoming overweight becauseD

B.they are too busy to go out and play
C.they can't choose what to eat
D.there are too many fast food shops around
30.The word"steering"underlined in the last sentence most probably meansB.
A.forcing
B.guiding
C.driving
D.moving
31.The main purpose of the text is toC.
A.tell a story
B.provide facts
