I became a magician by accident. When I was nine years old, I learned __________ to make a coin disappear. I’d read The Lord of the Rings and went into the________ to look for a book about spells(符咒). Nine was a strange age when you were ___________enough to think that you might find a book of real, actual magic in the library. But in fact, the book I _________ taught me something about magic, and I spent the next months practicing.

At first the magic wasn't any _________ . It wasn't even magic; it was only a trick-- a bad trick. I __________hours each day in the bathroom running through the secret moves in front of the mirror. I heard my dad play pieces of new music on the piano, __________ I knew how to practice -- slowly, going for precision(精確) rather than speed. One day I tried the magic in the mirror and the __________disappeared. It did not look like a magic trick. It __________like a miracle.

One of the lessons I learn very early as a magician is that the most __________ part of a trick has nothing to do with the secret. The secret is simple: a hidden piece of tape, a small mirror, a special playing card. In this case, the _____________was a series of tricks to hide the coin behind my hand in the act of opening it, a dance of the fingers that I learned so __________ that I didn't even have to think. I would close my hand, then __________it, and the coin would disappear not by skill but by real magic.

Clay Warner is wearing his basketball clothes, waiting in the chair for his chance to play—but until last week, nobody asked him to play. Although the 18- year-old students does well in playing basketball, his coach wouldn’t like to bring Clay into play. He is afraid that Clay would get hurt.

This is because it’s kind of difficult for Clay to see things—even when he wears glasses. His mother says that he was born with cerebral palsy(腦癱). Although he tries his best to look at the basketball hoop by focusing on the right corner of his glasses, it is not easy for him to do it well.

On the high school’s Senior Night last week, Clay’s coach finally called him to play during the final minute of the game. With the watchers already standing to give him a warm welcome, Clay got into position as the crowd cheered him up.

“I want to get him in. It was Senior Night,” the head coach told reporters. “If there is an opportunity for him, I wanted to take advantage of it. All the player were for it, too.”

Once the game was back in play, one of Clay’s teammates passed him the ball. Though he had been practising shooting hoops since he was in the third grade, this was the first time he had ever taken a shot on his high school basketball team.

As the watchers waited, Clay took the shot and dropped the ball clean through the net, hardly touching the rim(邊框)—and the watchers shouted in wild cheers.

Millions of people visit Machu Picchu each year. It is an ancient Inca city in the mountains of Peru. Steep(陡峭的) steps and rough paths make the trip a challenge. It used to be nearly impossible for people with a physical disability.

Wheel the World has changed that. The company offers wheel-chair- accessible(可以使用輪椅的) tours of Machu Picchu and other places around the world. “Normally people with disabilities would think that these kinds of places are not possible for them,” Camilo Navarro told reporters. He set up Wheel the World with his best friend, Alvaro Silberstein. Silberstein uses a wheel chair.

Navarro and Silberstein started Wheel the World after hiking Torres del Paine in 2016. It is a national park in Chile. Silberstein was the first person to travel the park in a wheelchair. “Our story went popular,” he says. “We started receiving hundreds of requests from people wanting to repeat this trip.”

Today, Wheel the World runs 40 wheelchair-accessible trips in 55 countries. The company offers cars and hotels with ramps(輪椅). It directs people to accessible(可進(jìn)入的) bathrooms. It even teaches local guides to help wheelchair users get around.

Wheel the World uses a special wheelchair for the Machu Picchu trip. It can be pushed like a wheelbarrow(獨(dú)輪車). It also folds up(折疊) and can be put into a car easily. “It's a super strong wheelchair. It allows you to get to every corner in all kinds of places,” Navarro says. “Wherever somebody with a disability want to go, we can get there with that wheelchair.”

Wheel the World hopes to give people with disabilities the same opportunities as everyone else. “The world hasn't been planned for people with a disability,” Navarro says. “It's important to build a fairer and better world.”
