It’s always a happy moment when you get some pocket money. But have you ever thought about how to spend your pocket money wisely? Here is some advice.

Make a list.

When you get your pocket money, don’t get too excited. We all have a lot of things that we want. But do you really need them? That’s why it is necessary to make a list before you spend money. Start with the thing you want most. You can also write down how much it costs or how important it is in your life. By doing this, you will see if it is really necessary to buy it.

Help others.

How about being more selfless and using your pocket money to help others? We all know that there are many people in the world who are in need of our help. Helping others brings out the best in us and is one of the greatest joys in our lives. So consider using your pocket money to do something useful and helpful, and feel how you can make a difference.

Save as much as you can.

There is an old saying that “Money doesn’t grow on trees.” If you spend all your pocket money right away, you’ll have no money until your next “pay day”. A wallet sometimes might not be the best place to save money because it may make it easier for you to spend your money. Get a piggy bank(存錢罐)or ask your parents to start a savings account (賬戶) for you. Someday when you look back, you’ll get a strong feeling of achievement by saving so much money by yourself!

1.Why should we make a list before spending money?

A. Because it can help us know if we have enough money for the things.

B. Because it can make sure we buy everything we need.

C. Because it can help us know which thing is the most expensive.

D. Because it can help us buy things that we want most.

2.What does the underlined sentence “Money doesn’t grow on trees.” mean?

A. Money is as important as trees. B. Money doesn’t come easily.

C. One can make money by growing trees. D. We should use our money to protect the environment.

3.The best place to save money can be ________ according to the writer.

A. our piggy bank B. our parents’ wallet C. our parents’ account D. our wallet

Nowadays people are making themselves beautiful in Korean ways.

“Thank goodness you have double eyelids(雙眼皮). Your parents will save a lot of money,” said a family friend when I was five years old. Double eyelids, which almost all the white people have, are rare among Northeast Asians. Only 25% of South Koreans are born with double eyelids.

I never quite understood how having double eyelids saved my parents’ money until last summer. When I came back to Seoul, everywhere I noticed cosmetic surgery clinics(整形診所) and advertisements with South Korean women ---tall, thin, with milky skin, long legs, nice big eyes and perfect noses. I found that South Korean beauty meant looking as “white” as possible.

Cosmetic surgery has a kind of magical attraction to women---the promise of beauty. Women are often sure that suffering(受苦) is necessary and worthy(值得的)in order to be beautiful. This suffering is not for nothing. It is believed that beauty leads to attracting a better-looking partner, which then leads to a better-looking child and a better life.

Appearance is starting to be more important in work places. People with good appearance can have more chances. For example, my 29-year-old brother, who is slim and very tall, gets more job chances than his best friend, who is shorter and heavier, though both of them came from the same college, had the same good marks in their studies. In fact, many South Koreans believe that physical beauty equals happiness.

1.How many South Koreans are born with double eyelids?______________________________

2.When did the writer understand having eyelids saved his parents’ money?_________________

3.Why do so many women want to have cosmetic surgery?_____________________________

4.What kind of people can get more job chances ?______________________________

5.What do many South Koreans believe? ______________________________________

Enriching(使豐富) your life means making an effort to make your life as meaningful and happy as possible. Though you may have difficulty realizing it, there are endless steps you can take to experience new things, gain knowledge, and enjoy what you already have.

Learn to forgive others. If you often hate other people around you, then you won’t live a wonderful life. So learn to move forward and accept nobody is perfect and that everyone makes mistakes. If someone has really hurt you and feel it difficult to accept that person’s apology(道歉), then be honest about it. Don’t pretend(假裝) that you’re okay and then go on complaining. This won’t get you very far.

Volunteer to help others. It will not only be good for the people around you, but also make you able to connect with different people who can influence your life just as positively(積極地) as you can influence theirs. You can work in a homeless shelter or help do the cleaning in your neighbourhood.

Try to be less wasteful. Trying to be not wasteful can help you become thankful and really enjoy the world around you more. You can use paper instead of plastic whenever you can. Don’t use too many products that can’t be used again. Go to somewhere on foot or by bike instead of driving. All these ideas make you less wasteful.

Get along well with your friends and family. No matter how busy you are, you should develop a habit of spending time with your loved ones and letting them know how much they mean to you. You can write thank-you cards to your friends and family members or call up your parents or grandparents regularly. If you’re not living in the same place, then often tell yourself to call just to say “hi”.
