It was Mother's Day. John was so busy with his work that he couldn't go back home. When he passed by a flower shop in the evening, an idea came to his mind, “I'll send Mum some roses(玫瑰).”While John was picking his flowers, a young man went inside. “How many roses can I get for only five dollars, madam?” he asked. The assistant(店員) was trying to tell him roses were as expensive as forty dollars a dozen(一打). Maybe he would be happy with carnations(康乃馨).
“No, I have to have red roses,” he said. “My mum was badly ill last year and I didn't get to spend much time with her. Now I want to get something special, it has to be roses as rose is her favourite.”
After hearing it, John said he would pay the rest of the money for the young man. Moved by both of them, the assistant said, “Well, lovely young men, thirty dollars a dozen, only for you.” Taking the roses, the young man almost jumped into the air and ran out of the shop. It was well worth twenty-five dollars that John paid to see the exciting moment. Then John paid for his dozen of roses and told the assistant to send them to his mother.
As he walked out, he felt nice. Suddenly he saw the young man crossing the street and going into a park. But soon John realized it was not a park but a cemetery(墓地). Crying, the young man carefully put down the roses, “Mum, oh, Mum, why didn't I tell you how much I loved you? God, please help me find my mum and tell her I love her.”

A baby carrier is like a backpack for carrying a baby. Ann Moore introduced the idea of a baby carrier to American people nearly 50 years ago.
Ann spent two years in Africa in the early 1960s. She worked as a nurse there. Ann saw babies wrapped in bright cloth tied to their mothers’ backs. The babies snuggled (依偎) close to their mothers, and the mothers could use their hands to do other things.
In 1964, Ann had her own baby. She tried making a carrier like the one African mothers used. The carrier was like a backpack. Everywhere Ann went with her baby in the carrier, people asked, “Where can I buy one?” In 1965, Ann and her mother began to sell handmade carriers. Ann received a patent (專利) for the baby carrier in 1969. By that time, the baby carrier had leg holes and straps (帶子) that could be made longer or shorter. It could also be worn on the back or front.
By 1979, the baby carriers were made in a factory. These baby carriers cost less to make and more than 25,000 were sold every month.
When Ann made her first baby carrier, she just wanted to keep her baby close and still have her hands free to do other things. Now all over the world babies ride in baby carriers, close to their parents, safe and happy.

Four ways to have a good school-life
Your schooldays should be some of the best and happiest days of your life. How can you get the most from them, and make sure you do not waste this excellent chance to learn?
Be active at school
Don't say things are difficult or boring. Be interested in school-life and your school subjects. Join lots of activities. ①( hands, quickly, your, class, in, up, put). Go around the school with a big smile. If you are not working, you are wasting your time at school. Teachers can not make everything enjoyable.
Keep fit
If you donot eat a good breakfast, you will be thinking about food in class. If you go to bed late and do not have enough sleep, you will be sleepy in class. ②Play enough sports every day in order to(為了) keep your body strong.
Face the problem
Do not say you will do things tomorrow. If you get behind the class, it is very difficult to get back in front. ③You can not finish the race if you rest all the time. Everyone fails some exams, loses some matches and has bad days. Don't let small problems seem very big and important. Don't forget to ask for help. You are young, no one thinks you must do everything quite well!
④ _________________________
Don't waste time lying in bed on Saturday or Sunday morning. Go and play a sport, get together with friends in the park to relax, learn the piano, or help someone with problems. If you don't want to go out, there are also a lot of things to do. You may read a book, practise English or
help Mother with housework.

Does this ever happen to you? Someone introduces you to a friend, you hear his or her name, and then two minutes later, you forget it. Or you go to the same restaurant every day and the owner always says “Hello” to you but you can never remember her name. If this happens, you are typical — actually most people have the problem remembering names.
Here are some ways that can help people remember names.
※ Repeat the person’s name loud at least three times while you talk together. For example, instead of saying “Nice to meet you.” say “Nice to meet you, Jack (for Sue or whatever the person’s name is).” Instead of saying “Where do you live?” you can say “Where do you live, Jack?”
※ Introduce the person by name to someone else right away.
※ Write the name down (with a little information about the person) as soon as possible.
There are other ways which may seem a little strange. However, try them.
※ Think of a story using the person’s name. For example, think to yourself, “Jack has a nice jacket.” Imagine Jack in a nice jacket.
※ Think of a rhyme(押韻)for the person’s name. For example, think to yourself, “Jack would look nice in black.” Imagine Jack wearing black clothes.
All these ways have one thing in common. You must pay attention to the people you meet. You can’t just meet someone, nod your head, say hello, and walk away. Remembering names takes work and practice.
根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,判斷下列句子正誤。正確的用“A”表示,不正確的用“B”表示。
【小題1】 Few people have problems remembering others’ names.
【小題2】The word “typical” probably means “common”.
【小題3】 It may seem unusual to help remember a name by making up a story with it.
【小題4】If you want to remember names easily, you must talk politely to the people you meet.
【小題5】 This passage mainly tells us how to get on well with others.
