Information is received into our brain by attention, and its quality determines (決定) how well it will be processed, saved and used afterwards.
All information we receive is chosen by our attention. Factors (因素) affecting (影響) our attention are personal interest, experience, ability, feelings, knowledge, environment, timing, and so on. The same information may attract different forms and levels of attention from different people. Some people can get and save the information easily; some may have great difficulty; while others may just turn a blind eye to it. To the same information, one may even pay different levels of attention at different times. But if the facts work together, the quality of attention may be better. Therefore, it is not surprising to see that somebody with average intelligence (智力) can have excellent performances in some fields.
The good news is that a person's attention can be shaped, trained and made stronger by effective exercise. With this in mind, we should keep improving the quality of our attention.

Zhang Hongying, girl, 15 I want to make our lunch time longer. At the moment, lunch time is short. Most of my classmates would like to do their homework during this time. But if they don’t get a good rest, they won’t have enough energy for the afternoon. So I would like to have more time and have time to take a nap after lunch. That way, we’ll learn better in the afternoon. |
Zhao Pengran, girl, 15 I would like to have more chances to talk in English. Now, the English classes are not enough for us to practice speaking English. And soon the 29th Olympic Games will be held in our country. I think we’d better have one morning a week at least to have spoken English lessons in order to improve our English. |
Zhou Jiancheng, boy., 15 My idea would be to have more fashionable school uniforms. If I were the headmaster, I would ask the students to design the uniforms themselves. We could have a contest among student designers. Then, we could ask others to choose their favourite. This way, we’ll be able to wear what we like best. How nice it would be for us young people! |

To write a great news story , you have to make sure it is correct , relevant (相關(guān)的) and fresh..
For a start, all the information in a story must be correct. Not only the spelling and grammar, but also the facts.
Any mistakes that appear (出現(xiàn)) in a story can get a newspaper into big trouble.
For example, if a newspaper said that Yang Liwei was the first man to go into space, it would be wrong. He wasn't the first. The newspaper would probably lose lots of readers because of that mistake.
A news story is not only correct ,but also relevant to its readers . People are mostly interested in news that happens near to them . That is why you care more about what happens at your school that at American schools. It is also why newspapers in Beijing don 't talk about much news in Shanghai or Hong Kong.
Finally, news must always be fresh . When you pick up your evening newspaper, you want to read about news that happens that day. You don't want to read about news from last week !
So, now you know what makes a good news story . Have a good look at our newspaper and see if it is full of good news .you can try writing a news story for our newspaper like a real reporter.
