In classroom your teachers will talk about topics that you are studying. The information they provide will be important for you to know when you take tests. So you must be able to take good written notes from what your teachers say.

Here are the three stages (階段) of taking notes and what you should do during each stage.

1Before Class

Review your notes you have taken before you come to class. This will be good for remembering what was covered. Get you ready to understand new information your teacher will provide.

2During Class

Keep your attention on what your teacher is saying and “the signal words” that tell you what your teacher is going to say and it is important to write them down in your notes. Examples of signal words are “The most important point...” and “Remember that...” Be sure to include in your notes information that your teacher repeats or writes on the blackboard. Write quickly so that you can include all the important information in your notes. Do this by writing abbreviations (縮寫) such as med for medicine, using symbols such as % for percent, and writing short sentences.

3After Class

Rewrite your notes to make them more complete and accurate (準確的) by changing abbreviations into whole words, symbols into words, and shortened sentences into longer sentences. Use them to answer your questions. If necessary, ask your teacher for help.

The film Alice Through the Looking Glass is on. Millions of people go to cinemas to see it. The little girl Alice, with long hair of gold, is alive in people's mind again after the film Alice in Wonderland was shown in 2010.

These two popular films were adapted from the novels Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. Both of them were written by Lewis Carroll, a famous English writer, who himself was as interesting as his books.

Lewis Carroll was a maths teacher and talented writer. In 1856, he met Henry Liddell and his three lovely daughters. His friendship with the family became an important part of his life over the following years. He liked the girls very much, especially the youngest one, Alice Liddell. Many other strange characters such as the Mouse, the March Hare, the Cheshire Cat and the Queen of Hearts were brought to this wonderful world too.

Alice Liddell loved the story and she begged Carroll to write it down for her. Do you know about DNA? Here is an introduction of it.

DNA is short for deoxyribonucleic acid. It contains genetic instructions. These instructions are used in the development and functioning of all known living organisms(有機體). That's to say that your DNA decides what you are like. Perhaps this is a little bit difficult for you to understand. Here is an example to explain it more clearly. Before you were born, your DNA had already decided you would have two hands and that each hand would have five fingers. Your_hands_would_help_you_hold_things_and_do_many_other_things.

However, DNA is more than that. We get our DNA from our father and mother. That is why we look like our parents and are not like others'. Also because of different DNA, Chinese people look different from Americans. Chinese people have black hair and eyes, but many Americans have blue eyes and blond hair. Though we have discussed many things about DNA here, there is still a lot more to know about it. If you would like to know more about DNA, you should go on the Internet. Perhaps the website will help you.

(1、2題完成句子;3題簡略回答問題;4題寫下全文的主題句;5題將文中畫線句子譯成漢語。)
