Smartphone, Poor Sight

As we all know, smartphones make our lives easier, so we can find people around us always busy on them. But have you ever thought about what they mean to our eyes?

According to a survey, many people have become near-sighted(近視)because they spend too much time on the screens. When we look at something far away, our eyes blink(眨眼)about 15 times every minute. But when we look at things closer to the face, our eyes get drier because the blinkings slow down. Another bad habit is using smartphones in dark rooms before going to sleep. Bright screens can hurt our eyes and even cause more serious eye illness.

So use your smartphones wisely, and start to protect your eyes before it’s too late!

Hold the phone at least 30cm away from your eyes when using it.

Don’t forget to blink your eyes often before they get dry.

Keep the light on when you use smartphones at night.

Take a break at least every thirty minutes and look at something far away. Then try to look at the top of your nose and repeat this several times.

1. Why do many people use smartphones?

2.When do your eyes get drier?

3.Is it good to look at bright screens in dark rooms? Why or why not?

When I was a kid, the Easter (復(fù)活節(jié)) holidays in Australia were my favorite time of the year. As soon as they began in April, my family would head straight to the beach for a weekend of camping.

Unlike most of the world, Easter falls in autumn in Australia. This means that Easter is our last chance to enjoy the warm weather, swim in the ocean and sleep in the bush under the stars.

We’d pitch our tents(帳篷) on clear patches of grass and look out onto an almost empty beach. Often we were the only ones camping and the whole beach would be ours alone.

We used to spend all day outside – swimming, hiking and fishing. On Easter morning, my parents would wake up early and plan an Easter egg hunt for my three brothers and me. They would hide the eggs in the strangest places – in abandoned(廢棄的) bird nests in the trees, under our tents and in every corner of the stones that surround(環(huán)繞著) the beach.

In Australia, instead of chocolate bunnies, we had chocolate bilbies (兔耳袋貍). Bilbies are Australian animals with long ears. Chocolate bilbies were the best treat to find and there was always one for each of us.

But sometimes, other animals found them first, and all we’d find were brightly colored wrappers(包裝袋) with animal tooth marks.

After the hunt we would come back to the campsite with our bellies (肚子) full of chocolate. For us, Easter wasn’t about chocolate eggs or religious tradition. It was about being with our family in the great outdoors.

1.The writer loved Easter because ___________.

A. she enjoyed a great time out with her family

B. she could get up late during the holidays

C. she could eat eggs on that day

D. it was the most important holiday of the year

2.Which of the following is TRUE of Easter in Australia?

A. It falls in spring.

B. Many animals come out that day.

C. It’s different from that in other countries.

D. It’s about the rebirth of Jesus.

3.The writer usually had _________ during Easter holidays.

A. chocolate bunnies B. chocolate eggs

C. chocolate bilbies D. chocolate bars

4.What does the passage mainly talk about?

A. Holidays in Australia.

B. Easter celebrations in Australia.

C. The history of Australian Easter.

D. Australian traditions.
