Millions of people visit Machu Picchu each year. It is an ancient Inca city in the mountains of Peru. Steep(陡峭的) steps and rough paths make the trip a challenge. It used to be nearly impossible for people with a physical disability.
Wheel the World has changed that. The company offers wheel-chair- accessible(可以使用輪椅的) tours of Machu Picchu and other places around the world. “Normally people with disabilities would think that these kinds of places are not possible for them,” Camilo Navarro told reporters. He set up Wheel the World with his best friend, Alvaro Silberstein. Silberstein uses a wheel chair.
Navarro and Silberstein started Wheel the World after hiking Torres del Paine in 2016. It is a national park in Chile. Today, Wheel the World runs 40 wheelchair-accessible trips in 55 countries. The company offers cars and hotels with ramps(輪椅). It directs people to accessible(可進入的) bathrooms. It even teaches local guides to help wheelchair users get around.
Wheel the World uses a special wheelchair for the Machu Picchu trip. It can be pushed like a wheelbarrow(獨輪車). It also folds up(折疊) and can be put into a car easily. “It's a super strong wheelchair.
