Your body is special—no two people in the world are alike. Although you are different from everyone else, you have exactly the same body parts as the people around you, doing different jobs that keep all of us alive.
What is inside my head?
Your head houses the most valuable part of your body-your brain. As you are reading, your eyes send pictures to your brain which makes meaning from what you see. Your brain helps you to remember and think, and makes sure your body is doing what it should.
What is my skin(皮膚)for?
Your skin covers your body. In most parts of your body, the skin is just as thick as half a centimeter(cm). If you have your skin cut, it will have a quick cure(愈合)and stop viruses (病毒)from getting into your body. Your skin also helps you feel the heat and coldness of the environment around you. Hair grows from inside the skin. When you feel hot, extra heat comes out through your skin. As a result, your body temperature(溫度)drops.
How do I move?
Muscles(肌肉)are found in most parts of your body. They work with your bones to help you move — whenever you cry or smile, eat or speak, walk or dance, etc.
Why do I breathe?
Your body needs to take in oxygen(氧氣)from the air and give out the unwanted carbon dioxide(二氧化碳)in the body. When you breathe, air comes through your nose and mouth into your lungs where oxygen flows to different parts of your body.
What makes me sneeze(打噴嚏)?
When dust or a strong smell gets into your nose, you sneeze. This is the way your body cleans up the dust in your nose. Your lungs push out the air and try to clear your nose.
What does my heart do?
Your heart is a very special muscle. It is slightly bigger than your fist(拳頭)and grows bigger as you do. If you place your hand on your heart, you will feel your heart beating which forces blood to move around your body.
1.Which part is the most valuable part of your body?
A. My skin. B. My brain. C. My mouth. D. My nose.
2.If you have no skin covering your body, what would happen?
A. Viruses can’t get into our body easily.
B. Our body can be guarded(保護)by our hair.
C. Extra heat can only stay inside our body.
D. We can’t feel the changes in temperature.
3.What can you learn about your body?
A. Sneezing is a way to clear our nose.
B. Our heart is the same size from birth.
C. We take in carbon dioxide to stay alive.
D. Our muscles stop working when we cry.

Think back to a time in your life when you tried something new.
When I was a teenager, I volunteered to pass out water at a local race. I was so excited to see all the different runners, they passed by and quickly took a cup of water. Some ran past, some walked past and a few wheeled past.
I saw so many types of people doing it. I thought maybe 1 could do it too! The next year I decided to run for the race, but I had a little running practice. I just wanted to finish.
On the day of the race, it was terribly hot. After running for about 5 kilometres , 1 was thinking, “Why did I do this?’ And at one moment ,I said to myself,“I am never doing this again!”
That first 10km race was quite an experience. I ran slowly, I walked, I ran slowly and walked. At times,I didn’t know if I could finish.
Near the end, a 70-year-old man ran past me, very fast, and I felt a little shamed that I was more than 50 years younger than he and I couldn't even keep up with him. But then 1 realized something. He was running his race and I was running mine. How often in life do we compare ourselves with others when we really shouldn't? I decided that I would not give up on running races, and that one day I would be one of those 70-year-old men who were still running.
As I crossed the finishing line, I was proud of myself. I didn't regret having such an experience.
