Scientists said that in the past 100 years, as the global(全球的) temperatures went up by 0.74℃, the temperature in North China has climbed 1.4℃ in only 50 years.

China needs to cut down carbon dioxide(二氧化碳) emission(排放),because it can make the global warm. The good news is that China has seen the importance of going green. China has decided to cut energy use down by 20% and pollution emission by 10% in the 11th Five-Year Plan.

Can you slow down global warming? Sure! You and your family can take some steps.

Here are some pieces of advice to help you save the earth.

Wear used clothes. It means that you save the energy when you wear your brother’s, sister’s or dad’s old T-shirts.

Change your light bulbs(燈泡). Use energy-saving light bulbs. And don’t forget to turn off the lights when you leave a room and turn off your television and computer when you don’t need them.

Take a bus. Taking a bus saves a lot of oil(石油) every year.

Say no to plastic bags. The next time your parents go to the market, ask them to use baskets.

Open the windows. Don’t use the air conditioner(空調). Let some fresh air in. When you have to use the conditioner, set the temperature higher in summer and lower in winter to save energy.

Answer the questions (根據短文內容回答問題):

Venus (金星) has long been one of the most misunderstood planets. Like the earth, Venus has its own atmosphere. However, the atmosphere is much thicker than that of the earth, which makes it difficult for modern scientists to study. There is much we still do not know about what this planet like. However, using special machines, scientists have unlocked many of the long-hidden secrets in recent years.

Venus is in many ways the earth’s sister planet. It is almost the same in size and chemistry as the earth. In other words, Venus is made up of almost the exact same types of materials as the earth, in about the same amounts.

In the early days of Venus’ 4-billion-year-old life, it would have appeared very similar to the earth. The two would have been almost the same. However, over a period of a few million years ago, Venus lies much closer to the sun than our planet. It has made Venus terribly hot.

Since it is closer to the sun, Venus’ temperature should be a little warmer than that of the earth. As the planet warmed, water which can be used to form oceans, lakes and rivers, evaporated(蒸發(fā)). This increase in water vapor(水蒸氣)began a cycle of global warming. Water vapor is a very effective greenhouse gas. It caused the temperature to rise and more water to evaporate. The temperature then climbed still further. Today it is likely that all of Venus’s water has evaporated into the atmosphere. This atmosphere effectively keeps the sun’s energy and makes the surface to burn much hotter than it naturally would.

If you happen to find a way to survive the extreme heat on the surface of Venus, you will quickly notice something strange about the days. Venus rotates(旋轉) very slowly, so that a day on Venus actually lasts longer than a year. Instead of the sun rising in the east and setting in the west, the sun would appear to rise in the west and set in the east when you are on Venus.

1.Both Venus and the earth have their own atmosphere, don’t they?

_______________, _____________________________________________________.

2.How can the scientists finally get to know more about Venus in recent years?

4.What has caused Venus to become completely different from the earth?

5. Please list some other strange natural phenomena(現(xiàn)象) on Venus besides the heat.

6.In recent year, the earth faces the similar situation which makes Venus very hot. What do we call this kind of situation and what caused the problem on the earth?

This report shows something of home computers used by a group of young people. It is a common idea that children today know about computers and have a good knowledge of using them in all sides of their lives.

We decided to try to find out if this was true.

We asked thirty young people between 14 and 18. All the children said they had computers at home. We asked them how much time they usually spend on their computers in a week, but we wondered what they used their computers for.

The average(平均的) time spend on a computer in a week was 12 hours, with the highest user about 30 hours and the lowest only 5 hours. There were no differences between boys and girls.

All the children said they usually used their computers to play games. Fourteen told us they did some word-processing at home, but not very much. Only three of them said that computers helped them with their studies, and nine people told us that they kept addresses and telephone numbers on their computers, or used them as diaries. Only four people said they were learning to make programs, and nobody looked up databases(數(shù)據庫). None of the people used their computers for any other use. The diagram below gives all the results one by one.

The results show that computer use is quite high among 14-18 year-old children. They also show quite clearly that computers are used by most people as little more than game machines. The only other great uses are for word-processing and keeping address lists. It seems to us that, computers are common in the homes of young people, they haven’t become useful in everyday life.

1.How many young people were asked in the report?

A. 14. B. 18. C. 30. D. 12.

2. In the last paragraph the underlined words “l(fā)ittle more than” means___________.

A. almost the same as

B. less than

C. a little more than

D. different from

3.In the diagram, the letter “d” shows______________.

A. only two children spent 30 hours on their computers in a week

B. three children spent about 12 hours on their computers in a week

C. the number of children who spent their time learning to make programs

D. the number of children who spent the least time on their computers in a week

4.According to the report, __________________________________.

A. most of the children can use the computers to study

B. only children aged from 14 to 18 use their computers at home

C. children should not play computer games
