Students who get tired of looking at the four walls of a classroom might like to take the nature course being offered by Carvel College again this summer. Groups of about a dozen students each, led by an experienced guide, will go on ten-day camping trips to the mountains to study the plants and animals that grow and live there.
Students carry their own things which include sleeping bags, warm clothing, food and water, and other useful tools. And what do the students do all day? Well, as soon as the sun comes up, they eat breakfast and start climbing up the mountain trail(小路)to the next campground, which is five to ten miles away. The students take notes when the guide points out different plants and animals alongside the trail. The climb is usually over by early afternoon, so the group spends the rest of the day resting or swimming in a mountain lake. Before dinner each night, they all come together and discuss the day’s activities.
At the end of the course, the students write reports using the information they have collected. But they don’t mind at all. What they do mind is leaving the beauty of the wilderness(荒地)and the good friends they’ve made to return to their normal lives in the city.
1.What can the course offer to the students?
A.Better grades in school tests. B.Free vacations in mountains.
C.A different learning experience. D.A chance to study in Carvel College.
2.How far does a student have to walk every day?
A.About five to ten miles. B.About fifty to one hundred miles.
C.About two hundred miles. D.About one hundred and twenty miles.
3.What do the students have to do before dinner?
A.Wash themselves up in a mountain lake. B.Attend classes by the experienced guide.
C.Write about what they see along the trail. D.Review what they learn through discussion.
4.What can we infer from the course?
A.They will change campgrounds every day. B.The students have to learn all by themselves.
C.Pens and books will be useless in the course. D.Carvel College will offer the students everything.

Choose the best answer and complete the passage. (完形填空):
Some years ago when I was in my first year in college, I heard Salome Bey sing for the first time. The moment was exciting. Salome's ___________ filled the room and brought the theater to life. I was so moved that decided to write an article about her.
I phoned Salome Bey, telling her I was from Essence magazine, and that I wanted to meet her to talk about her career. She agreed and told me to come to her studio next Tuesday. When I hung up, I was scared out of my mind. I knew I was lying. I was not a writer at all and hadn't even written a grocery list.
I interviewed Salome Bey the next Tuesday. I sat there ___________, taking notes and asking questions that all began with, "Can you tell me..." l soon realized that __________Salome Bey was one thing, but writing a story for a national magazine was just impossible. The pressure was almost unbearable. I struggled for days with draft after draft. Finally I put my manuscript (手稿) into large envelope and dropped it into a mailbox.
It didn't take long. My manuscript __________. How stupid of me! I thought. How could I compete in a world of professional writers? Knowing I couldn't face the rejection (拒絕) letter, threw the unopened envelope into a drawer.
Five years later, I was moving to California. While leaving my apartment, I came across the unopened envelope. This time I opened it and read the editor's letter in disbelief:
Dear Ms Profit.
Your story on Salome Bey is fantastic. Yet we need some relevant (相關(guān)的) materials. Please add those and return the article immediately. We would like to publish your story soon.
Shocked, it took me a long time to recover. ___________ of rejection (拒絕) cost me dearly. I lost at least five hundred dollars and having my article appear in a major magazine. More importantly, I lost years of enjoyable writing. Today, I have become a full-time writer. Looking back on this experience, I learned a very important lesson: You can't ___________ to have no faith (信任) in yourself.

2.A.seriously B.patiently C.nervously D.quietly
3.A.talking B.having C.inviting D.fooling
