More Than a Helping Hand
For most people, advances(進(jìn)步)in technology make life more fun.
For example, the latest iPod or digital camera can bring excitement to your life. However,
they are not essential;you would certainly get by without them. Can you imagine if technology could not just make your life more interesting but change it completely? This is exactly what the 1atest advances are doing to the 1ives of the disabled people.Technology allows such people to live independently, making impossible tasks seem normal.
Take, for example, the iBOT 3000.This is the SUV(越野車) of wheelchairs. Not only can it handle(應(yīng)付)parks and dirt roads, but it can even climb stairs. This gives its users the freedom they have always dreamed of ---- to go wherever they want, whenever they want. Computers also make it easier for people with disabilities to work. Some, such as large screen texts or special keyboards for the blind, are simple and common.
But the most important technological advances are yet to come.Swiss researchers are developing computers that can read brain waves which can move a mouse on the screen to select choices. Of course, they need to have wires linked to their heads, but that will change soon as well.
This technology will provide endless possibilities for people whose bodies no longer function(運(yùn)行).They will be able to use their minds to control their wheelchair or write a letter. They will even be able to order their robot to cook them a meal or brush their teeth. Now that’s essential technology.

( ) (3) What are Swiss researchers doing?
