When tea and coffee were first introduced to Europe in the 18th century, people had different ideas about their use. Some said that tea and coffee were harmful to humans and they could cause (引起)people to die.
In Sweden(瑞典), King Gustaf Ⅲ decided to find out whether or not this was true.It happened that there were two brothers in prison at that time. They were twins and were almost alike in every way. They had both been sentenced to death (判處死刑).The King decided to let them live if one of the men agreed to drink several cups of tea each day and the other several cups of coffee.
Both brothers lived many years without problems of any kind.At last, the brother who had drunk tea every day died at the age of 83,the other died a few years later.
Because of the experiment(實(shí)驗(yàn)), tea and coffee got accepted (接受) and became popular as drink in Sweden, and it is one of the many countries of the world where much tea and coffee is drunk today.

All around the world, people drink tea. But tea does not mean the same thing to everyone. In different countries, people have very different ideas about drinking tea.
In China, for example, people always drink tea when they are getting together. They drink it at any time of the day at homes or in the teahouses. They prefer plain tea, with nothing else in it.
Tea is also important in Japan. The Japanese have a special way of serving tea called tea ceremony(茶道). It is very old and full of meaning. Everything must be done in a special way in the ceremony. There is even a special room for it in Japanese homes.
Another tea-drinking country is England. In England, the late afternoon is “tea time”. Almost everyone has a cup of tea then. The English usually make tea in a teapot and drink it with milk and sugar. They also eat cakes, cookies and a few sandwiches at tea time. This is the so-called “Afternoon Tea” in Britain.
In the United States, people drink tea mostly for breakfast or after meals. Americans usually use tea bags to make their tea. Tea bags are faster and easier than making tea in teapots. In summer, many Americans drink cold tea—“iced tea”. Sometimes they drink canned iced tea, just as soda.

Nothing beats sitting down in front of the TV with some delicious candy or tasty French fries.

Recently, an online list of favorite snacks in China became popular. It says that peanuts (花生), walnuts (核桃) and chocolate are good for our health, but jelly (果凍), potato chips and lollipops (棒棒糖) are “bad” for us.

Kids, though, hardly care if the snacks are good or bad for their health. They love them either way. Some snacks often have special importance in a certain country or culture.

Potato chips and French fries are very popular in the US. They are cheap and tasty. People don’t need to wait for a long time to eat it. Popcorn is another common snack. People love eating it when they are watching sports games or visiting the amusement park. Most cinemas sell it to attract customers.

In the UK, kids often sit down for snacks after school. They call this “afternoon tea”. A traditional afternoon tea includes biscuits (餅干) and tea. People also have scones (烤餅) with jam and cream, which is probably the most classic English snack.

In South Korea, Choco Pie is one of the most popular snacks. It’s also a favorite of soldiers. The sweet snack makes them happy and helps them get through hard times.

However, it is not just about what you eat as a snack – it’s how much you eat and when. Chips and French fries are high in calories(卡路里) and eating too much may make you fat. Sweet snacks like candy and chocolate are high in sugar and eating a lot may give you bad teeth.

B.People love to eat popcorn when they are watching movies.

C.A traditional afternoon tea includes pies and tea.

D.If you want to have good teeth, you can have more candy and chocolate.

4.According to the passage, we need to care about ____________

A. why we eat snacks                      B. where we eat snacks

D. who we eat snacks with                   D. how much snacks we eat
