Dear Tim,

Today is Saturday. It's 7:00 in the evening here. I'm writing to tell you something about my life. My father is watching a talk show on CCTV. That's his favorite program. My brother is playing computer games. My dog Dick is taking the hat to me. He wants me to put it on and go out for a walk with him. What a clever dog! My little sister is practicing playing the piano. It sounds beautiful today. Outside, I can hear cars and buses coming and going quickly. Also there are some boys playing ball games. There were two men who lived next to each other. One of them was a retired teacher and the other was an insurance agent(保險(xiǎn)代理人). Both of them had planted many different plants in their gardens. The retired teacher seldom watered his plants and didn't pay a lot of attention to them. But his neighbor was very careful with his plants and watered them often.

The retired teacher's plants were small, but still looked okay, while the insurance agent's plants were much bigger and greener. One night, there was heavy rain and wind because of a minor(較小的) storm. The next morning, both of the neighbors came out to check on their gardens. The insurance agent saw that his plants had been ripped from the ground and were totally destroyed. But the retired teacher's plants were not damaged at all but stood firm.

The insurance agent was surprised. He went to consult(咨詢(xún)) the retired teacher. “We both grew the same plants and I cared for my plants better than you did. How could your plants still be okay?”

The retired teacher smiled and said, “Because you gave your plants too much attention. You made it too easy for them to grow. I gave my plants just a little bit of water, so their roots had to grow deeper to absorb(吸收) more water. That is why my plants didn't die.”

Erin Brockovich grew up in Kansas, USA. She studied at a business college for a year, and then she went to California.

In 1990, when she was thirty years old, she had a car accident. A law firm (律師事務(wù)所) helped her after the accident, so she started to work for them later.

Erin worked very hard for five years. She visited lots of sick people in Hinkley and listened to their stories. All the sick people lived near a big factory called Pacific Gas and Electric.
