British people are very polite, sometimes too polite. They always say sorry 1        everything, even there is no need to apologize, and they can spend a long time 2       (do) so. For me it is normal to do this. I am a very polite person and will always apologize for getting in someone's way in the street and I    3      (normal) expect that the other person will apologize too.

Before I moved toGermanyI 4       (tell) that Europeans are more direct and not as 5       (polite) as British people. There is no need for an apology when you stand on someone's toe or try to walk in the same direction as another person. I am very surprised that people do not 6        to me when they have stood on my foot,7       hit me over the head with their bag because I am so used to it. One of my friends here explained to me that most 8       (German) feel no need to apologize as both people should know that it was an accident.

When you're in a hurry or very busy,9       should you waste time apologizing over and over again to someone who already knows that you did not mean to do it? However I still find 10        very strange when something like this occurs.
