A new rubbish sorting system (垃圾分類(lèi)系統(tǒng)) has been put into use in Fangchengyuan Community in Beijing. Local people not only sort their rubbish, but al so put QR codes (二維碼) on it.
“When the rubbish is collected and the codes are seen, I will get reward points to exchange for small gifts and even some money,” one of the local people told reporters. “It’s really creative and encouraging.”
China produces quite a lot of rubbish every year. Much of the rubbish is buried (填埋) in soil or burned without being sorted. Landfills (填埋場(chǎng)) take up a lot of land and have a risk of polluting the soil and water nearby. And burning rubbish can produce harmful gases. Because of their benefits, some countries have developed successfully sorting systems.
Japan has a strict and detailed system. when people throw away a water bottle, the cap, the wrapper (包裝紙) and the bottle itself have to go into three different bins.
In Australia, every family is provided with three rubbish bins—the red lid (蓋子) bin for “general waste” like food and plastic bags, the yellow lid bin for “recycling” like steel and glass, and the green lid bin for “green waste” such as grass and leaves. When I was small, sometimes my mom gave the family a funny special treat—she would make breakfast food for dinner.
I remember she did so one night. She had been at work all day but wanted to do something special for us all. On that evening, my mom put a plate of eggs and very burnt toast(面包)in front of my dad. I waited to see if anyone noticed. But my dad just took his toast, smiled at my mom and asked me how my day at school had been. I don’t remember what I told him that night. But I remember watching him put butter on that toast. He ate it up as usual.
After dinner, I remember hearing my mom apologize to my dad for burning the toast. I’ll never forget what he said:“Honey, I love burnt toast.” Later that night, I went to kiss daddy good night. I asked him if he really liked his toast burnt. He wrapped(緊抱)me in his arms and said: “Your mommy worked very hard today. She’s really tired. And a bit of burnt toast never hurt anyone!”

But I’ve learned something important from my father. Understanding is the basis(基礎(chǔ)) of everything, whether between a husband and wife, a parent and child or just between two friends.
