Tea bag drinking is most westerners’ favorite way of drinking tea. Do you know how it came about?
The tea bag was invented in 1908 by Thomas Sullivan, an American tea seller. He was sending out free tea in silk bags for people to try. People put the bags together with the tea leaves into the cup and added hot water. The tea tasted good, and people thought it was easy to clean the cup. They were not happy when Sullivan started sending them loose (散的) tea again.
Sullivan realized that he had a hot new thing in his hands, and he built a machine to pack the bags. As tea bags became popular, they were changed from silk to gauze (薄紗) and later paper. In 1952, Lipton Tea made the tea bag even more popular with its invention of the four-sided tea bag. Tea bags were soon a hit in the UK, and today 85% of the tea in the UK is packed in paper bags.
However, many people still prefer loose-leaf tea. This is because some tea companies put not very good tea in their tea bags. But for most drinkers, tea bags are still the easy, tasty way to go.

閱讀短文,按要求完成短文后的各項(xiàng)任務(wù)。
The holiday’s upon us.After months of study, you have some time to yourself. So, why not read a book? Well, some people will say, “Why trouble with books? We have the Internet and other media(媒體)that offer a lot more colorful programs.Books are history!”
But don’t be fooled. There’s still a lot to be said for reading-and reading as widely as possible.
One clear reason is that a well-chosen _________is a wonderful collection of _______ and expressions, so long as you have a good dictionary, of course.Believe me, it’s far easier to get new English words and expressions from a book or article than it is from the TV or the Internet.
But an even more important point is that books give you something that modern media simply can not. The webpage(網(wǎng)頁(yè))is always full of pictures and the text is often designed(設(shè)計(jì)) to make it as easy to read as possible.Though “easy” may be welcome, unluckily it’s of little use for any long-time development of reading skills and the general language level. For that, there’s still no substitute(替代品)for a book.
But perhaps the best single reason is that simply choosing what you read and doing it by yourself means that it’s something you do by and for yourself. You can choose what you want to read. It’s hard work, but while you are reading, you’ll find that what once seemed like a duty is now a pleasure.Reading can bring us great pleasure.

The United States is full of automobiles (機(jī)動(dòng)車(chē)). There are still many families without cars. But some families have two or     more cars. However, cars are used for more than pleasure. They are a     part of life.
Cars are used for     . They are driven to offices and factories by workers who have no other way to      their jobs. When salesmen are sent to      parts of the city, they have to drive in order to       their products. Farmers have to drive into the city in order to shop for necessities.
Sometimes, small children must be driven to      . In some cities, school buses are used only when children       more than a mile from the school. When the children are too     to walk that far, their parents take      driving them to school. One       drives on Mondays, taking her children and the neighbors' children as well. Another mother drives on Tuesdays, another on Wednesdays and so on. This is       forming a car pool (拼車(chē)). Working people also form car pools, with three or four people taking turns driving to the place     they work.
More car pools should be formed in order to put       cars on the road and to use less oil.      is a great problem, and so is the traffic in and around cities. Too many cars are being driven. Something should be done about the use of cars.
