Many people are involved (被卷入)in car accidents every year in the United States. If you are one of these unlucky people, here are some things to do after a car accident.

The most important thing is not to be scared (害怕的). Call the police and report the accident. If you are involved in a hit-and-run accident, try to get the driver‘s license plate(牌照) number。

It is important that you call the police so that they can write a police report. Most insurance companies(保險公司) only give you money if you have a police report.

When you call, please tell the police where you are. Give the police your phone number.

When you are waiting for the police to arrive, write down what happened. Write down some information about the other car involved such as its colour. Write down the names of everyone involved in the accident. You can also take some pictures of the accident.

When the police arrive, tell them what happened. Be sure to get the following information from the driver of the other car: the name, the address, the phone number, the insurance company name and the license plate number.
