Answer the questions (根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容回答下列問題.

Each and every year, during Chongyang Festival, citizens of China celebrate the elders in their families and communities. It’s a special tradition which is rooted in the deep value that Chinese culture places on honouring their elders.

Sadly, many of our aging population are seniors without sons, daughters or grandchildren to visit. While they may have great friends, they no doubt miss the tender and loving relationships unique to families. To fill this void(空虛), many volunteers turned up on October 28 at nursing homes around the country in order to spend time with the residents. In some cases, they performed humble(謙遜的) gestures of kindness, such as combing their hair or washing their feet.

While the kind acts were appreciated, one embarrassing story out of Anhui province raised a valuable question. Reportedly, one old gentleman had his feet washed seven times during the day by different volunteers. Is this genuinely(真誠地) caring for the elderly? Many of the residents at the home said that those gestures do not make them feel cared for at all. Their family members or community volunteers may drop by for a few hours of token time, but soon they disappear back into their busy lives.

There is nothing we can give that is more valuable or appreciated than our time. While you may feel like there is barely enough time to care for your many responsibilities, might it be possible to spare just a moment as you walk home from school to sit with a senior who lives in your community? Just five minutes is not going to prevent you from getting your homework done, but it may totally change a day of loneliness into a day of joy for one old man or woman. Do you live far from your grandparents? Why not pick up the phone and let them know you’re thinking of them? Or maybe you could remind them of the “good old days” and mail them a short letter. Imagine their surprise and joy!

We live in a complicated(復(fù)雜的) and busy world, but kindness and caring is still a very simple thing.

1.People in China celebrate the elders at Chongyang Festival, don’t they?

2.Who appeared at nursing homes to spend time with the residents?

3.How many times did one old gentleman have his feet washed during the day?

4.Which gestures can make elders feel cared for ?

5.What did the family members of the residents at the home do?

6.Have you been to any nursing homes before? What did you do for the residents there?

If you haven’t, please tell us what you did for the elders around you in the past.

My little brother sat in the corner of the living room, a pen in one hand and my father’s book in the other.

As my father walked into the room, my brother knew that he had done something wrong. I could see that he had scribbled (胡寫亂畫) in the book with a pen. Now, he and I both waited for our father’s punishment.

My father picked up his book and looked at it carefully. My father was a teacher. For him, books were very important, and yet he loved his children. Instead of punishing my brother, he took the pen from my brother’s hand, and then wrote in the book himself: John’s work, 1959, age 2. I’m very thankful to you for scribbling in my book.

“Wow,” I thought. “Is this punishment?”

The years and the books came and went. We always knew our parents loved us. From time to time we would open the book, look at the scribbles and read my father’s expression of love. My father taught us how important it is when our lives are touched by little hands. He also taught us about what is really important in life: people, not things.

Now I am a father too. Unlike my father, I don’t wait for my daughters to take books from my bookshelf and scribble in them. I take one down and give it to my children to scribble. As I look at their artwork (藝術(shù)作品), I think about my father and the lessons he taught me.

1. What did the writer think when his father came into the room?

A. His father would buy a book for John.

B. John’s artwork was beautiful.

C. His father didn’t love his children.

D. John would be punished by his father.

2.What does the underlined sentence mean?

A. Having children is a wonderful experience in one’s life.

B. Everyone’s life is important and exciting.

C. Children should be touched by their parents often.

D. Everyone should have a child.

3. From the passage we know that ________.

A. the writer was two years old in1959

B. the writer’s father worked in a hospital

C. the writer is now a father who has daughters

D. the writer didn’t allow his brother to touch his book

4.What is the best title for the passage?

A. A Lovely Boy B. The Last Lesson

C. A Letter from My Father D. A Lesson in Love
