Good parent – teacher communication is necessary for a child’s success in school. Recent studies show that the more actively parents are involved (參與) in the child’s school life. The better the child does in his studies.

Like all relationships, parents and teachers affect each other, but the person who is most affected is the child. What they need to understand is that the educational success depends on many things, including the ability of the parents and teacher to know his needs and what he likes, and encourage him.

When a child’s teacher and parents work together in the best interests (利益) of the child, he may feel able to learn, but, more importantly, also feel supported.

Education is about much more than just academic (學術(shù)) success. We must use the parent-teacher relationship to help a child grow and learn. So, how should parents and teacher work together?

It doesn’t require a change in the school subjects. It simply means that they should work together to help make lessons practical (與實際結(jié)合) . For instance, if a child is learning about money at school and the teacher takes the time to communicate this to the parents, the parent can take the child to the store to practice what he is learning at school. At the store, he has to pick out a thing he can afford to buy, take out the right amount of money to pay for it and check to make sure the clerk has given him the right amount of change. Doing this can help him to learn about the world in which he lives. This is how good parent-teacher communication supports the parent, teacher and, finally, the child.

1.Who is most affected by the parent-teacher relationship?

A. The child B. The parents.

C. The child’s friends. D. the teachers

2.Which of the following is TRUE, according to the passage?

D. With parent and teachers caring for the child, he may feel supported.

3.The underlined word, “change”, in the last paragraph means in Chinese.

A. 商品 B. 課程

C. 變化 D. 零錢

4.The author’s purpose of giving the example in the last paragraph is to tell us that .

A. parent and teachers should work together to help make the child’s lessons practical.

B. Parents play an important role in educating children.

C. children should not learn about money at school.

D. Parents should take the child to the store often.

A friend of mine named Paul received an expensive car from his brother as a Christmas present. On Christmas Eve when Paul came out of his office, a street urchin(頑童) was walking around the shining car. “Is this your car, Paul?” he asked.

Paul answered, “Yes, my brother gave it to me for Christmas.” The boy was surprised. “You mean your brother gave it to you and it didn’t cost you nothing ? Boy, I wish…”He hesitated.(猶豫)

Of course Paul knew what he was going to wish for. He was going to wish he had a brother like that. But what the boy said surprised Paul greatly.

“I wish,” the boy went on, “that I could be a brother like that.” Paul looked at the boy in surprise, then he said again, “Would you like to take a ride in my car?”

  “Oh yes, I’d love that.”

After a short ride, the boy turned and with his eyes shining, said, “Paul, would you mind driving in front of my house?”

Paul smiled a little. He thought he knew what the boy wanted. He wanted to show his neighbours that he could ride home in a big car. But Paul was wrong again. “Will you stop where those two steps are?” the boy asked.

He ran up to the steps. Then in a short while Paul heard him coming back, but he was not coming fast. He was carrying his little crippled (殘疾)brother. He sat him down on the step and

pointed to the car.

“There she is, Buddy, just like I told you upstairs. His brother gave it to him for Christmas and it didn’t cost him a cent(美分). And some day I’m going to give you one just like it …then you can see for yourself all the nice things in the Christmas window that I’ve been trying to tell you about.”

Paul got out and lifted the boy to the front seat of his car. The shining-eyed older brother climbed in beside him and the three of them began an unforgettable holiday ride.
