The Lantern Festival falls on the 15th of the first month of the lunar calendar(陰歷). This day is always the first full moon in the new year. Ancient people also called it Shangyuan Festival. Celebrations and traditions on this day began from the Han Dynasty(朝代)and became popular in the Tang Dynasty.

Watching the red lanterns is one of the main traditions. Lanterns of different shapes and sizes are usually put on trees, or along river banks on show. It is said that sky lanterns were first used by Zhuge Kongming to ask for help when he was in trouble. Today, when the lanterns slowly rise into the air, people make wishes.

Another tradition is guessing lantern riddles. The riddles are usually short, wise, and sometimes humorous. The answer to a riddle can be a Chinese character(漢字),a famous person’s name, or a place name.

The most important thing is to eat sweet dumplings with different tastes. In northern China, they are called yuanxiao while in southern part they’re named tangyuan. Because making sweet dumplings is like a game or an activity, they are usually done happily by a group of friends or family members.

In old times, the Lantern Festival was also romantic(浪漫的). Watching lanterns gave young people a chance to meet each other. A line from Xin Qiji, a poet during the Song Dynasty, shows this:

Hundreds and thousands of times I searched for her in the crowd. Suddenly I turned, and there she stood, in the dim(昏暗的)light.

As weeks went on, I continued trying. The more I practiced, the better I did. But I had never practiced parking in the dark before. Then I decided to push myself. 4..

When I slowly drove to the parking place, I couldn’t see anything. My heart was beating rapidly. A moment later I guessed I was getting somewhere, I let the car go. Oh, my god! The car hit a tree. 5.. But I tried it after all.

閱讀短文, 根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容回答問(wèn)題。

Adam Braun set up the organization (組織) Pencils of Promise in 2008. Its goal is to make sure all children can go to school. Now, Pencils of Promise is building a new school somewhere every 90 hours. It has helped more than 22,000 children in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Adam Bruan had this idea of helping poor children go to school when he was a college student. He was visiting India when a boy stopped him and asked for money on the street. Mr. Bruan asked the boy what he would want, if he could have anything in the world.

“I thought the answer was going to be ‘a(chǎn) house’ or ‘a(chǎn) car’ or ‘a(chǎn) boat’. His answer was ‘a(chǎn) pencil’. So I gave him my pencil and he was just happy and excited. His answer made me understand the truth that he had never been to school before, and that was also the real life for 57 million children around the world,” Bruan said.

Adam Bruan started working in finance (金融) after he finished college. But he never forgot the boy and the true life for the poor children.

“We live in a world in which every child should have a chance(機(jī)會(huì)) to go to school, because we already have everything we need to give them good education. We are able to educate every child. So I decided to help change that world,” Bruan said.

Mr. Bruan collected money for his project. He paid for building the first Pencils of Promise school in Laos five years ago. Since then, his organization has helped pay for more than 200 schools in the countryside of Laos, Nicaragua, Guatemala and Ghana.

1.What is the goal of Pencils of Promise?

2.How many children has Pencil of Promise helped?

3.When did Adam Bruan start to have the idea of helping children?

4.What truth did the boy’s answer tell him?
