It’s important to learn about protecting our environment. Here is a 5R rule for us:

1. Reduce

If you want to reduce waste, you should use things wisely. Millions of trees are being cut down to make paper. If everyone uses a little paper carelessly and throw it out, soon we would not have any trees left. Other things are also being wasted, and people don’t know what to do with the waste in big cities. So it is necessary to reduce the waste

2. Reuse

You should always think of reusing the usable things before throwing them out. Give your clothes you do not use or the ones which are too small to the poor. With a family, you may pass on such clothes to younger brothers or sisters.

3. Recycle

Bottles, cans and paper can easily be recycled. By doing so, we save lots of time and money. For example, coke cans are sent to a factory, where they are smashed flat(壓平)and melted (融化) and the melted things are made for new coke cans.

4. Recover

When you buy a box of apples, there may be a few rotten(腐爛的)apples. You have two choices: one is to throw the whole apple away, or you could cut off the rotten parts and eat the good parts. In this way, you are recovering the eatable parts of food.

5. Repair

If one of the legs of your table is broken, you can repair it instead of throwing it away. If you want to change for better ones, It is better for you to sell the old things or give them to other people who can use them after doing some repairs. It is true that North America is a “throw-away” society(社會(huì)). But the time has come to change our way of life so that we can protect our environment. Every one of us should try our best.

1._______ can be recycled.

A.Only hard things    B.Many things        C.Few soft things     D.All things

2.The “recover” rule mainly requires us _______.

A.to throw waste things away                B.to cover waste things with earth

C.to get back the useful parts                D.to throw the whole things away

3.We can infer(推斷) that the writer of this passage may live in _______.

A.China            B.Japan             C.Australia          D.America

Soon computers and other machines will be able to remember you by looking at your eyes! The program works because everyone’s eyes are different. Eye-recognition is better than other kinds because your eyes don’t change as you get older, or get dirty like hands or fingers. And even twins have different eyes, so the program can be up to 94% correct, depending on(依靠) how good the technology is. Some programs may only be right 51% of the time. In Britain, it was found that 91% of people who had tried it said that they liked the idea of eye-recognition.

What is your favourite colour? Do you like yellow, orange, red? If you do, you must be an optimist(樂觀者), a leader, an active person who enjoys life, people and excitement. Do you prefer greys and blues? Then you are probably quiet, shy and you would rather follow than lead. If you love green, you are strong-minded and determined. You wish to succeed and want other people to see you are successful. At least this is what psychologists(心理學(xué)家)tell us, and they should know, because they have been seriously studying the meaning of colour preference, and the influence that colours have on human beings. They tell us that we don’t choose our favourite colours as we grow up. If you happen to love brown, you did so as soon as you opened your eyes, or at least as soon as you could see clearly.

A yellow room makes us feel more cheerful and more comfortable than a dark green one, and a red dress brings warmth and cheer to the saddest winter day. On the other hand, black is depressing. Light and bright colours make people not only happier but more active. It is a fact that factory workers work better, harder, and have fewer accidents when their machines and painted orange rather than black or dark grey.

Remember, then, that if you feel low, you can always brighten your day or your life with a new shirt or a few colourful things. Remember also that you will know your friends and your enemies better when you find out what colours they like and dislike. And don’t forget that anyone can guess a lot about your character when you choose a piece of handkerchief(手帕).

A.if you enjoy life, you must like yellow, orange and red

3.Psychologists study the meaning of color preference because________.

A.colors may affect the emotional states of the people

B.colors may decide the results of our work and study

C.color preference can tell you who your friends are

D.color preference can help you to see through your enemies
