It’s sure that having a lovely pet can make people’s home life better—and in fact, it is of great importance in the pet owners’ career lives (職業(yè)生涯). In fact, according to a new survey, people with pets may be more successful in their careers and this is good news for those pet parents who want to be successful and powerful.
How could it be possible for those pet owners to have career success? The researchers surveyed 857 people in the United States with different kinds of jobs. Well, according to the research, some successful people said that their pets helped teach them many useful lessons, like being more responsible (有責(zé)任心的) and creative, showing love for others, and keeping rules. And all of these are so important in the business world.
What about people who grew up without pets, but have adopted (領(lǐng)養(yǎng)) pets when they are adults (成年人)? Luckily for those, the survey showed that having pets now can also help with their career success.
According to the research, 86 percent of pet parents said owning pets can help them keep a good order in their lives, plan their time better, and finish more work without wasting time or money. But even though you don’t think your pet has truly helped you, it will be greatly useful when your workmates get to know that you have a pet. In fact, 80 percent of people in the survey said they have a closer relationship with those workmates who have their own pets, and 79 percent of those believe that workmates with pets are more hard-working.

Do you have any problems in your life and don’t know how to be happy? If so, you will find Being a Happy Teenager written by an Australian writer Andrew Matthews.
In his book, Matthews tells us how to have a happy life and answers the questions of teenagers. There are many subjects, such as parents and friends, and the book says we should stop being angry and should forgive (寬恕). The book tells us some useful ways, such as how to understand better what you learned. Many teenagers think happiness comes from a good exam result or praise(表揚(yáng)) from other people. But you can still be happy when there are no such “good” things.
Success comes from a good attitude(態(tài)度). If you learn from problems, you will have success in the future. Some school students have problems, such as being too tall or too short. But Matthews tells us that happiness comes from thinking in a positive(積極的) way. If you are tall, you can get a better view(視線) when you see a film; if you are short, your clothes and shoes take less room in your bedroom! This is Matthews’ most important lesson, “You choose to be happy!”
Answer the following questions according to what you have read.
1.What’s the name of the book written by Andrew Matthews?
2.What’s in Matthews’ book?
3.According to Paragraph 2, where does happiness come from for many teenagers?
4.Is it right to think in a positive way?
5.What’s Matthews’ most important lesson?
