In many old Chinese stories, there was one about Chang’e. It was said that there were ten suns in the sky a long time ago. It was so hot that people couldn’t grow anything. Hou Yi shot（射中） nine of them down. The king was very happy and gave him some medicine（藥） which could make him live forever. Hou Yi asked his wife, Chang’e, to keep it. But one of Hou Yi’s students wanted to rob（搶） the medicine from Chang’e. Chang’e had to eat the medicine herself. Then she flew to the moon and lived there.

Hou Yi lost his wife and he was very sad. But he noticed that the moon was much brighter and clearer on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month each year. In memory of （紀(jì)念）Chang’e, people later make the day as Mid-Autumn Festival.
