I’m glad to hear from you. Welcome to Shanghai. You mention that you are coming for an international exchange student program， which is a great opportunity to experience the Chinese culture. As your pen friend， I would like to share some specific manners to make your stay better and easier.

During the days here， eating habits may come as the first culture shock that you will come across. When we are dining in China， dishes are always presented in the center of the table for everybody to share. In the west each one has his own plate of food. If you are served with food by a Chinese host， remember to express your compliments and gratitude not only for the delicious dish but also for the warmest hospitality.
