In the new Google age, the problem of child safety is not limited to the home, park and school, but into the online world. A recent cyber bullying(網(wǎng)絡(luò)欺凌) study found that more than half of teenagers in the research are victims of cyber bullying. However, most of them didn’t tell their parents. Of course, it’s impossible for parents to protect their children any time, especially teenagers. Therefore it’s necessary that parents educate and train children to be careful, know offline and online dangers, threats, and report to their parents at once. I strongly recommend the ACT rules to parents to keep children safe.

Awareness

The first step for the safety of children is to remain connected with them and encourage two-way communication. Dinner table conversations, bedtime chats, or a walk in the evening are ideal times to have one-on-one conversations with children. If you are a careful and patient parent, you can easily have an antenna that your child is stressed. Also make it your business to pay attention to websites and apps often used by children while making efforts to know their friends.

C____________

I strongly recommend these two books to help start the conversation — No Means No by Jayneen Sanders (2015) and Amazing You by Gail Saltz (2008). Moreover, educate them about the dangers of sharing personal information or chat online with strangers. Children whose parents have talked with them about online/offline safety threats are more likely to report something unusual.

Taking action

Support from one or both parents is important in preventing cyber bullying and cheer children up. And let children know that parents will listen, believe and respond to their worries. Moreover, as teenage children spend more time away from parents, encourage them to trust themselves and be brave.
