How Can You Fight colds?
People usually catch a cold in the spring time and fall. It makes us question: if scientists can send a man to the moon, why can’t they find a treatment for the common cold? The answer is easy. There are hundreds of kinds of cold viruses(病毒) out there. You never know which one you will get, so there isn’t a treatment for each one.
When a virus attacks your body, your body works hard to get rid of it. Blood(血液) rushes into your nose and brings congestion(堵塞) with it. You feel terrible because you can’t breathe well, but in fact your body is “eating” the virus. Your temperature rises and you get a fever, but the heat(高溫) of your body is beating the virus. You might also have a runny nose to stop the virus from getting to your cells(細(xì)胞). You may feel awful, but in fact your wonderful body is doing everything it can to beat the cold.
Different people have different ways to fight colds. In Canada and some other countries, for example, people might eat chicken soup to feel better. Some people take hot baths and drink warm drinks. Other people take medicines to stop the fever, congestion and runny nose.
There is one interesting thing to note — some scientists believe that taking medicines when you have a cold is really bad for you. We know that bodies can do a great job on their own. Taking medicine can make the virus stay in you longer because your body doesn’t have a way to fight it and beat it. There is a joke on taking medicine when you have a cold. It goes like this: It takes about 1 week to get over a cold if you don’t take medicine, but only 7 days to get over a cold if you take medicine.
1.When having a cold, your body can eat the virus while ________ .
A.having congestion in the nose B.taking enough medicines
C.going to see a doctor D.drinking cold drinks
2.According to the passage, the writer may agree that ________ .
A.eating chicken soup is the best way to treat colds in Canada
B.the virus will stay in your body shorter if you take medicine
C.having a runny nose means your cold is getting more and more serious
D.feeling bad while having a cold probably means your body is doing a good job
3.The joke at the end of the passage means taking medicine ________.
A.is better than not taking it B.is really bad for your health
C.needs longer time to get well D.is the same with no medicine

China and Western countries may have different cultural beliefs about certain animals, but when it comes to pigs, we have somehow reached an agreement — pigs are ugly, lazy, stupid and shameless. Just look at some expressions in our languages. In Chinese, we have the saying of “Boiling a dead pig”, and “A pig looking in the mirror is still a pig”. And in English, there are expressions such as “eating like a pig” and “sweating like a pig”. 1.. But the truth is that pigs do have some better qualities(品質(zhì)). And there's probably no better time to clear their names than now, with the arrival of the Year of the Pig on Chinese Spring Festival, which fell on Feb.5 this year.
2.. According to a paper published in 2017 in the International Journal of comparative Psychology , pigs are “mentally(智力上) and socially similar to dogs and chimpanzees(黑猩猩)”. They like to play. They have good long-term memories. And they know the difference between those who don’t.
There are lovely pig characters in cartoons too. Peppa Pig, for example, a UK carton that began in 2004, has now become one of the most popular cartoon's in 180 countries and areas. The four members in the cartoon’s pig family teach children from all around the world about love, friendship, and the value of family. And in China, the adventures(冒險(xiǎn)) of McDull have been described in films since 2001. 3..
“People are paying too much attention to immediate(立即的) results and success. 4..” said McDull's creator Brian Tse, “He has a heart of gold,” Perhaps these are the qualities of pigs to keep in mind when we celebrate this Chinese New Year — their cleverness, cuteness, patience and innocence(純真).
A. To begin with, science long ago showed that pigs aren't stupid at all
B. Some people think pigs are smart, cute and patient
C. None of them has good meaning
D. They are about a pig who works hard toward his dreams even though he keeps failing
E. However, MeDull is slow and patient, and not afraid of repeated failures
